I know a lot of you like automatics but that doesnt look like much fun. Maybe a launch or two but would be boring after that.

I test drove one, the ecoboost motor is responsive and all but the driving experience is a bit dull. Large sedan, soft ride, quiet interior makes it too disconnected and lexus like for my tastes.

I hear ya, but you know I thought the same thing for years. I was a purist manual guy on street and strip (many vehicles since 80s) until I got my auto AMG (they don't offer manual in my model)....now I'll take either(still lean to manuals tho)...at the end of the day at strip its the launch that matters...beyond that, in a manual you are just running it out and power shifting at the shift point that keeps you in the rpm band you want. I actually think launching an auto is tougher (and I understand its probably because I'm so used to having the clutch the feather out)

Hell maybe I'm just getting old...but on street I'm very much appreciating the auto (was getting worn down by some tight clutches in past). That all said the AMG does VERY well managing itself and you can go into a manual mode (on strip you can't really do better than the TCU on these cars however).

Now why am I here?? Looking at possibly moving over to a manual 335i I haven't yet researched how well the 335s auto TCUs manage themselves and still don't know what the hell SMG stands for...so if I find the autos do cpmparably well I'd definately consider it. (just FYI '06 M5 and 650i's are options for next vehicle as well....335s keep coming up as most logical option)

SMG = sequential manual gearbox.

I love manuals because they are so much more fun and add some complexity to races, but if your purely in it for the speed, modern auto's are where it's at.

and oh,,,I may need to look into these Sho's...ehhh, just doesn't fire me up tho...its a taurus and quite frankly Ford has been a mixed blessing for me...my old stang Cobra and older 5.0 taught me a 'LOT' about wrenching...on flip side I 'HAD' to learn (5 engine swaps...4 of them required really get you rolling on knowing how to work on cars...but also made me bitter cuz I could be driving a Viper with all the cash I spent).

Stock for stock, that's nearly the same weight/hp ratio as a 335i.

AWD = traction
Twin Turbo = Moddable as hell
Weight = doesn't mean anything nowadays, in terms of outright speed. look at the F10 M5

They are not terribly fast stock - 0-60 is 6.5, my N55 X5 will do that or a bit better and weighs a bunch more - 365 HP seems a bit over rated, compared to 300 for the BMW being a bit under rated. It may just be the sloppy ford automatic lets it down a bit and has less ratios, but either way they are tunable (maybe more so than the BMW) and for the money, there is a lot of potential!

I like the drivetrain, but the car is just too big and fluffy. The only reason I'd even think about one over my XI is if I liked autos and wanted something that had already depreciated really fast. Even though my first car was a turbo Ford that I have fond memories of, that's just not enough to make me want one.

Ecoboost in a US spec Focus would make for a hell of a fun platform.

6.5? The '13 will do the 0-60 run in 5.2.

It's a boat but a lot of people like big, road crushing sedans for a good price. It's pretty cool to me.

The F10 M5 requires a monumental amount of power to run the times it does. Weight most certainly does matter. It makes a HUGE difference. The SHO will need quite a bit of power to compete with a modded 335i.

Not just the 2013....all since launch have the same engine and will do 5.2. I think they changed some exterior/interior bits on the 13 but most importantly put better breaks on it......actually a very nice car. Kinda love or hate on the looks though....
