i drive not always right
My navigation sometimes tells me to make some non sense turns, like to a one way street or make a immediate u turn when I merge to freeway. Is that the Navi CD problem or software problem? I am wondering if I could use this excuse to get my idrive updates for free. anyone has the same problem?

it has happened to me once but not very often.. its not usualy the navigation and sometimes the address maybe moved a little and the navigation gets confused but i doubt there is a new update considering you have a 2007 3er

yeah I've had problems like that about 2 or 3 times now. For example I wanted to go to this place and the house # was 90. The Nav told me to turn right and "you've arrived". I did that and noticed the numbers were decreasing so I just did a u-turn and found the correct address.
I guess it's not really a big deal but if it happens a lot then it could get annoying. No nav system is perfect though. I mean even sites like Mapquest get directions wrong sometimes too. |

I think it's a problem with the navi disc information. For example, my navigator, Luna, directs me to take a street and turn right onto another but there are bollards across the entry. When the disc is updated with the knowledge of the bollards, this should go away.
One thing I've noticed is it tries to take the "crow's path". The simplest way to my house from the main drag is composed of two left turns. However, Luna wants me to bear left, turn right, turn right, turn left, turn left, turn right, and then turn right into those bollards. Presumably, without the bollards she'd tell me to turn right, turn left, turn left, you've arrived. Some of the streets Luna says to take are only two cars wide with cars parked on both sides.

They are mostly correct, but there are cases will your nav will tell you to turn into 1 way street against traffic.. just use it in combination with your best judgement and you should be okay.

I figure that once in a while the map is not updated properly which causes the error.
I once had it route me to a wrong location that I know it also routed me correctly previously (e.g., a major location that hasn't changed). Bizarre. Fortunately, it only happened once. |

I was about to loop/onramp right onto an overhead highway from an underneith road and the latest Euro DVD told me to make a plain left onto the highway as though they were at the same level (a left turn would have met me with an embankment the freeway sits on top of),
On the up side the white arrow WAS pointing right to indicate that I should be taking the freeway onramp/upramp, so I'd have to think about that for a while. Was it half right or half wrong?? |

Keep in mind that the location of a particlular street number/house is 'guessed' or interpolated.
There is no way that the exact locations of every building/dwelling in North America are on a 4Gb DVD.

It's definitely a problem with the Nav DVD. I've had 3 DVD versions (2006.2, 2007.1, and 2007.2). The first two were dead on when navigating to my Work address. The latest one, however, has me passing the building and taking two out of the way turns to get where I need to go. When I put the older DVD back in, the navigation is correct.

Navi should really be programmed to how people prefer to drive:
1. fewer turns when going from A to B 2. major straight road with lights better than a smaller straight road with stop signs crossing multiple major roads 3. general preference of right turns to left turns especially when there are no left turn signals #1 alone would help a lot- Hate it when it goes right, left, right, left when I could have made just one right turn in two blocks. |

You can report errors here: NAVTEQ Map Reporter. Navteq may work it in to the next release.
