I got mine switched out just because I happend to be at the stealership for something else. They brought it up... I had no idea there was a recall.

The knob is the exact same looking as the first one. Just better materials used, I guess, since the original lost it's luster from my hand oil after just a few thousand miles.

...gotta lay off that hand oil on my knobs from now on.

yikes!

I went in for just an oil change and came out with a new shift knob, which I have since replaced anyways cause the stock one was too long... told by my SA there was a recall due to the paint flaking off.

I am so tired of people calling it a stealership. If you think they steal from you better stop buying clothes and other items because they make way more money on that than the delaership does on a car. Clothes is marked up over 100%. Do you think the department stores are stealing then?

Another funny thing I noticed is people say I am buying 2 cars do I get a bigger discount? Why do you say the same thing in the supermarket when you buy 2 quarts of milk? Try that and let me know how that goes. Also when you buy 2 shirts for regular price at the store do you always get a discount on the second? No way in hell and you would never ask. WHy is that? People really have to start thinking and realize they get ripped off way more everyday with all other items than they do at any dealership. Also the dealership is a BUSINESS why would they not try to maximize profit? You would do the same thing if you were in Business unless your a moron.

Also get a new delaership if you feel they are stealing from you. Ask any of my clients if they felt I or the dealership tried to steal from them and they will tell you we never tried. Find a real dealership if this how you fell about the one you deal with. There are plenty of good ones out there. It not our fault you bought from a shitty dealership its YOUR FAULT.

End of rant but I am so tired of people being so cluless about all of this . I am in sales and find this quite insulting.

But Ryan, you live in completely different world. You are one of the VERY few dealerships that does not make you feel ass-raped when you leave with your new car. The ONE time in 17 years that I didn't buy a car from your family of dealerships (I had to have that CL-type S and you didn't own an Acura dealership at the time) I thought the two sales-mooks were going to beat me up in a back room to close the deal. I know I should have walked, but after 4 hours of negotiations, I got an ok deal. After that, I'll never go anyplace but Flemington again because I remember all too well what a "stealership" is all about and your dealership makes everything so easy. If every BMW dealership was like yours, nobody would refer to them as "stealerships" again, but unfortunately, they aren't all as good as yours.

ps sorry for the hijack. I hope my 8/07 build doesn't need a new shifter at least until a grey poplar one is available.

Percent markup really has nothing to do with it. Clothes dont cost 40k. You have to move alot of clothing to make what the dealership makes on one car. And when you buy a nice new shirt you arent pressured intto buying the all important undercoating. Oh, and your insane if you think clothing stores have 100% margins.

Because when you buy two BMWs you are likely to spend 80k or more. But buy two quarts of milk and your barely spending 5 bucks. This is a rediculous statement. Do you think I would get a deal if I wanted to buy 80k worth of milk? I would think so...

I am in the automotive industry and everyone in the business knows and feels the same way. Dealers are out to take your money. They will take every bit of it that they can. Because they are a business. But that doesn't mean you should bend over and give them all they can take. Most people want to pay what they believe is fair. That's why people negotiate. Also, it's no secret that most dealers sell shady aftermarket products for rediculous markups (100% or more.)

First off no one said anything was your fault. And I don't believe it is the buyers fault either. Everyone can be tricked, course trick me once shame on you. Trick me twice shame on me.

Well the truth is that there are alot of decent franchised dealerships out there but for every well managed franchise dealership out there there are 20 independants that are ruining it for everyone. And even the occasional bad franchise as well.

You may be in the cleanist dealership in the land but I wouldn't stick my head up and proclaim the industry to be spotless because of that.

the two local BMW dealerships near me are both awesome. I have a friend who owns a bunch of dealerships, they're obviously in business to make money, but also realize that getting one persons money one time will not keep you in business in the long run...
