1M to F32 M4?
If the new M4 is to look anything like the below pic then I will be departing with my beloved 1M in the next couple of years. Though I like the "back to basics" the 1M offers, I'm finding this upcoming F32 in general is a home run and I will give up "fast & nimble" for more of a GT cruiser. What do you guys think? Is anyone else considering the move?

For a GT Cruiser from 1M, no, not for me. It looks modern and elegant but I doubt it will look exactly like that at the time of production plus even if it does it is still 2 sizes big for my taste.

Big torque and big revs? Looks promising so long as it really has lost weight.
For me another big win for the 1M, which is a function of it's speedy development and off the shelf parts, was it's price. I avoided the big packages and my 1M stickered at $49k. The low price and high performance of the 1M made it impossible for me to pass up. I shudder to think where the M4 is going to sticker given the 4 series premium over the 3 series, and the fact that 'stripped' is no where near being in line w/ the M4's character of a luxury sports coupe. I suppose you could look to the lower end of new 911 prices to find the top end of M4 prices. And if they overlap - and if I wanted to dump that much cabbage on a depreciating toy,... then I'd look to Stuttgart not Munich for my next ride. Last edited by Mahlzeit; 12-06-2012 at 11:08 AM.. |

I'll be keeping my 1M for some time to come. In fact, I may pick up a '08 or '09 DCT E92 M3 for a track car as the thirsty V8 and the new body style should further push their resale price down. |

I intend to keep the 1m and when it is time I may buy the new m2 as a stable mate to the 1m. I think on this occasion I am going to pas on both the 4 coupe and the M4.

I am sure some people will jump over, they will get the M4 just have to have the latest model, to get that "Is that the new M4?!" moment for a few month and then everyone will forget about it because there will be tons of those. The 1M on the other hand will always get that moments whenever you see one on the road. |

How come? You need to appreciate the uniqueness of the 1M versus the many thousands of M3 in the streets -- it will be the same for the M4 in a couple of years. BTW I really loved the 4 series but I have mixed feelings about the "Audi" headlights. I think the light line going to the grills was unnecessary. |

I will be keeping my beloved 1M. The 1M is becoming an iconic car, and I can't imagine ever parting with it.
Even if I weren't so attached to the 1M, I would not be compelled to buy the upcoming F32, and would be far more interested in the 2 series - especially the M2. The F32 is 5 cm longer than the outgoing E92, and I already think the E92 is too long. Although it may be slightly lighter than the outgoing E92, I doubt it will have noticeably better driving dynamics, and certainly won't compare with the 1M fun factor. And it remains to be seen if issues with electric assisted steering are properly dealt with. And while I like the overall shape of this concept (it is similar to the beautiful 6 series coupe), I do think the F32 is a bit overstyled - especially that boomerang shaped faux air vent on the fender. Perhaps they will tone down the styling of the bumpers on the production version. |

Nope. The will have to pry my 1M's steering wheel from my cold dead hands. : )
Seriously tons of beautiful cars out there but 1M is somewhat unique and special for this day and age. Would love to have one of these 4s for family outings but not at the expense of giving up the Einser M. |

Seriously... the new F32 is gonna be one heavy car! Granted the M3/M4 version will have 430 to 450 PS via a new take on the N54. I hear it will be called the S55, an N55 with twin turbos. I guess we will gave to wait and see what comes out.

Back on topic, I would agree with some of the others, that the M2 might be the better alternative if you just *had* to move away from the 1M. |

Should BMW build an M2, then that could be a good complement for my 1M |

I hate how everything keeps getting bigger and bigger....thats what i loved about the 1 series when it came out...I know it is still the size of an e46, but the idea of putting the best performing motor in a small(er) package is why I think the 1 series is going to be the best of the modern BMW's imo

I will be looking at retiring the 1M to track duty only in a couple of years. M4 would be nice, but probably looking at something four door so the M6 GC would be my pick at the moment.

The 1M is the last analog car. No gimmicks. Guys this is a keeper.

M4 is quite a big boat to float in terms of size and price.
Eventually an M2, if it stems from a decent 1M 'back to basics' pedigree. Anyways, the 1M will keep its phonetic status: "Wann'em".
