What do you do for a living and do you like it?

I'm askign this because I recently graduated college with a communication degree and I am finding it hard to choose what i want to do for a living. There are a lot of jobs out there. I've thought about marketing or maybe sales. I guess I asked what people do, to get some ideas and why or why not they like what they do. Any responses would be helpful. Thanks.

The only thing I can tell you is to be prepared to do something completely different from your career. You can go into marketing and end up in administration, there's nothing like knowing to like what you get to do, if you don't, then try another thing but never loose track of your goals that is what is gonna make you like what you do since that will get you your dreams.

I think this way and it has worked, I studied industrial design with an automotive design specialty and I work for a building materials company, and I love it!

My dad was a premed at USC.

Now he owns a computer consulting/ software design corporation.

My cousin has a degree in Geology from UCSB.

Now he works for my dad as a programmer.

You got the peice of paper that tells everyone what they already knew. You have BS.

Now find something that thrills you and go make money doing it.

play xbox 360 and ps3.... develop madden, nascar....fifa and etc. games

all day, month of DEc - Jan pretty much off...more perks on games, vacation and more....

You're too young to worry about this, Chris.
Take a stab at something you might like and I guarantee other doors will open along the way. Who knows where they will lead.
Not to sound altruistic but make sure it's something you enjoy.
Being miserable doesn't do anybody any good.

I've actually been planning on studying something that's related to automotive design. How was it for you? And, if I may ask, why did you steer away from auto design?

You always have plans on what you "think" you're going to do after college, most of the time works out completely different. My advice is find a job you can deal with. Any job is going to get on your nerves eventually, but as long as it's not a daily thing I'd say you're doing fine. Good luck.

I studied as an industrial designer @ Pratt Institute. Specialty was product design. I worked for Motorola designing phones in the past. Now I'm in a packaging designer/ creative project manager. It allows me to work on everything from structural design, aesthetics, brand identity and some future forecasting stuff. My primary customer is Coke and I have secondary customers in the beverage industry. I'm busy everyday but it's always something different.

I was a bit of a computer geek starting in junior high school, now I am the IT manager for a small city. My undergraduate degree was in math, then went on to get a master's in systems management.

Why did you pick communications? Look there, to see if you can find a "hobby" that somebody will pay you good money to do for them.
