RPM drop?

For those with automatics, you may have noticed that when you first start the car, the RPM is higher than when the car is regularly at idle......is it better for the car if you wait for the RPM to drop before putting the car into D or reverse? Or does it even matter?

I usually do since it only takes less than 10 seconds to do so.
