Brand new noisy breaks !
Hello all,
Just got myself a new 325i (e90 – w/sport kit - Arctic – 161 type wheels) three months ago and the breaks are very noisy at low speed (turning heads when I’m getting out of the garage, not for the look of the car obviously…). It appears that this is common to all recent cars of the 3 series since a friend just had its brakes overhauled ($$) on a 2005 model (recommended by his dealer !?). Anyone with the same problem? Any recommendation for me? Should I spread some kind of cheap break fluid on the disks to cover the noise ? I thank you in advance for your most insightful advices. Sebby |

I've had cars like that...but on my 330i w/sport there is no brake noise whatsoever. Its definately annoying, but I don't think it is uncommon with newer cars.

Bring it back to the dealer! The car is only 3 months old, it shouldnt be having any problems what so ever.

I had noisy brake problem with a Land Rover Freelander front discs (over 2-3 months), you have to established if the noise brakes for at the front or rear or both ends!, the noise is caused by brake pad dust wedge/rubed between the discs and pads, and causing a vibration on the callipers/rotors and you can hear it. In the case of LR, they changed the brake pad twice, not fixed, then they change the worn/more like groved rotor (discs).
I think in your case the brake pad has cut a grove in the disc, and the grove is contacting with the brake pads in a concentrated points and caused the noise(I assumed high pitch noise). In the old days, they can machine the rotor to eliminate the groove, in case of LR, they inheret the BMW traits (during BMW reign to 1998)of non machineable rotor discs, so they can't be machined! But they may grip better with softer rotor???? The dealership may not change the rotor and pad combo (expensive) they are more likely to deglazed the pad outer connection to the callipers pistons and re apply the glazing (trying to decoupled the vibration/energy flow), clean the assembly and test, its cheaper and labour intensive and BMW will pay the dealer more!! Dealers will apply the cheapest option then waste your time and give you the more expensive solution later. Let us know if your dealer did otherwise. Then if it is still screaming, they will replace the rotor/pad combo. That is what happend to me. My LR is now fixed. My 3 series only done 1200kms, and fingers crossed, they are still very calm..........

I've had my car for almost 3 months, and I've been having squeaky/noisy brakes. A month into my car my brakes had squeaked once or twice too, but it went away, and now its back. I'm going to call my dealership and make an appointment.

break noise
My e90 had no problem it only had 7000 kms on it, but I had a terrible probelm with an LR, basically, the break dust got stuck between the shoes and the disc, the disc is not machineable (to remove the grove due to wear and tear).
BMW thinks its normal, what they normally do to fix it is to disaasemble the break, clean the shoes, disk, and rotor ( the part that push the disc brake onto the disc), and spray an anti sqeel compound onto the rotor/disc surface, and that should get rid of it. If it does not then you need a new disc and brake pad, bummer! made them do it! They replace my LR disc 2 x, and finally they gave me a new set of disc + pad and clean rotor/pad surface the third time. They give you the cheapest fix first, then it will escalate as you complain more! Ring BMW customer care if necessary.

I had same problem as well.
I visited the dealer and they said it is normal. I can't stand on this noisy. When the disc is wet, the noisy is louder.

Not me, it's a great car regardless. And of course like all new cars it's under factory warranty. |

I've had brake noise here n there with this car, definitely not enough to say something to the dealer. BUT now the noise has definitely got louder and occurs more frequently when slowing down.
I'm definitely going to say something to the dealership but they might not look at it after they see the lowering springs and shocks I put on. Not sure. But this definitely sucks.

I hate to say it but, you might have to take your aftermarket stuff out. I have heard of dealerships that don't really care whether you have aftermarket stuff or not. That's why I need to take the car to the dealer ASAP and get my H&R installed. |

^^ thanks for the input. I'll ask the dealer while they're installing my new seat (stitching came apart) and see what they say then. Guess if they're not going to touch it, then looks like a DIY is in store
