IPod help
I plugged in my ipod and it does work. (only from the ipod, not from any controls). Problem is no display shows up. Also, when I change to the radio, or cd player, the ipod keeps changing from song to song. This did not do this in my 550. Can someone please guide me to make this work properly.

Which iPod (type/generation) are you using ?
Also how are you connecting the iPod (I am assuming via the USB port in the center console?) It should work on the current gen models using the standard iPod cable . I haven't tried mine as I am now using an iPod Touch (gen4 and gen5) and both work great using the (modified) media adapter

I use both an iPod classic (4th gen) and my iPhone 4S, hooked up by the Apple USB cable to the center console and everything reads out ok on the nav screen. Try a different cable? I did not spend extra on the BMW adaptor, etc and haven't had the issues you're having. If another cable doesn't work, perhaps you need to talk to BMW or buy their cable/adaptor?

Sounds like you plugged it in via the headphone jack

I have the classic version which I was plug into the usb port in the center console. I tried the bmw cable I bought from them, and another cable. The diff with the second cable was on the ipod, it showed the bmw symble. As I stated, it worked fine with my 550 so I cant see what the diff should be. Hopefully it will work soon.

When my iPod classic is plugged into the center console USB, it also shows the BMW symbol on the iPod. So unlesss there is a virus on the iPod (possible?) there must be something weird with the recognition by the car's computer. I would then talk to the BMW dealer. If you are using iTunes on a PC, try doing an antiviral scan of the iPod using one of the many scanners (it is, after all, just a hard drive in a nice case made by Apple). Unlikely to be a virus but just throwing it out there...

Even if virus files were on the iPod classic, unless they were designed to infect the iPod OS or iDrive, they wouldn't do anything here -- and no virus designer would bother with infecting those OSes because you couldn't do anything useful for the hackers in those OSes.
Anyway OP, you shouldn't be buying any adapters from the dealer. All you need is the standard white Apple USB cable, nothing connected to the headphone jack. I agree another cable is probably your best bet, since I've never seen anything like the issues you're describing.
