Question about tire wear
I have an 06' 330 with 162's and run flats with 27,000 miles. I took a look under the car the other day and the inside of the rear tires are completely worn while the outside have plenty of wear remaining. There is obviously too much negative camber built into the suspension. Since the camber is set at the factory (car has never been damaged), should BMW be partially responsible for the replacement of the tires or am I lucky to get 27,000 miles out of these tires? Thanks

I think for performance tires and such a low treadwear rating (140), the wear is actually pretty good. I have about 20K miles on mine with probably another 7-10k miles to go). I had prepared myself for replacing the tires every 12k miles prior to purchasing this car, so I am pleasantly surprised.
The alignment does cause the inside of the rear tires to wear faster, but this seems to be the case with many performance cars. From what I have seen Porsche's have the same problem, if not worse. Have you noticed similar wear on your 993TT?

I have had every 3 series dating back to a 320i in the early 80's and I have never had uneven wear on the rears. Oh well, if they are at the end of their life, so be it. As far as my 993TT goes, it is a 600hp car and I would be lucky to get 5000 miles on the rears. That is a different story though. Thanks |

I don't have access to alignment specs, but I'd wager there's more rear negative camber stock on the E9X than there was on say the E30 or E21 |

The suspension was dialed to excel in handling, thus the need for negative camber. If you attemt to align the vehicle again, you will realize that the specified range for your car will be negative. 27K is excellent for a car of this caliber in addition to the wheel/tire size. I too love the the 993. One of my favorite cars of all time. |

Thanks Joey, amazing how many people are on all the different car forums. For 993's, Rennlist is the best . Good luck with the turbo cab, they are very nice cars.

To the OP, go with a tire with higher treadwear rating if you are concerned with tire life.

Check the rear toe as well, as improper toe eats away at tires more than neg. camber does.
