Heat from front corners??
I noticed that after I drive there is QUITE a bit of heat coming thru the sheet metal on the fenders just behind the reflectors. Even after VERY short drives with or without headlights on. ANyone know what is under there driving the temp. Its almost too hot to touch?!!!

Sorry to the OP, but these responses cracked me up.
FWIW, the E90 generates a hell of a lot more heat than most cars I've driven, and the engine bay stays warmer longer.

Talked to my CA, he says this is a new feature in 335i to allow you to cook your steak & eggs on the car while you are on the run.

They are actually very rapid controlled burns, not explosions.
But either way, yeah - they tend to emit heat.

The engine bay in these cars definitely seem to keep more heat in them than any other car I've ever owned.
I've thought about this before and I wonder how quickly the rubber and plastics under the hood will degrade because of this? If I recall the last gen RX-7's had a big problem with the heat under the hood cooking and cracking vacuum lines. Hell, the engine bay in my Evo didn't seem get this hot or stay hot for nearly as long as this car does. I have to think that if we vented the engine bay a little better either through evacuators in the hood (like M3 GTR hood) or modifying the undertray to draw more out of the engine bay if we would see a noticeable difference in engine bay temps and maybe even in engine temps. Yup, the M3 grilles really help cool the engine bay a lot!

If you look at in in a physics perspective, as long as you start and stop at the same elevation, 100% of the energy is lost as heat. Either from the engine, brakes, drivetrain, air resistance, rolling resistance from tires, speakers vibrating the air, lights, etc. As air rolls over the car, it "bumps" other air molecules and creates heat. Tires heat the air inside them, the track, and the rubber itself.
No wonder global warming's a huge issue. |

Back on topic... there seems to be part of the hood that is warmer than others. (Like the part that the OP was describing) And the difference is quite distinct too. |

I learn a lot from this forum and LOL with the funny replys in this thread. Keep cool, Jose |

I noticed this same problem with my 335! I got so tired of it I decided to take a thick wool blanket and wrap the engine with it. Problem solved!!

Please, none of you quit your day job...
If anyone is interested try putting you hand on the center of your hood after a 10 minute drive, now place it on the fender just abov/behind the crappy looking amber reflectors. at least twice as hot (hood is rather cool). I would expect hood and windshield area to be hotter that a relativley forward area such as the fenders
