VF SC E46 M3 smokes modded E90 335i

The 335i didn't even stand a chance

The E46 M3 has a VF-Engineering Supercharger kit makes 430rwhp at 7.3psi.
The VF kit is $10,000 though plus $1000.00 for stage 2 upgrade, plus $2000+ for the exhaust setup.

Hope this isn't a repost.

There are faster E46 M3's out there...FI ruins the S54 IMO. My M3 is a little over 320 RWHP NA and weighs a tad over 3,100 lbs and it's more than a handful for my 335 with Procede.

I think the 335 has a better chance in a lower gear. Like a 40 MPH roll.

Correct, my biggest upsets were racing from a start with the 335i. It has great low end advantage. Just about all my lost races were roll-ons. The stock 335i is definitely deficient in that area, relatively speaking.

i would also think the 335i (especially xi version) would be better from a standing start as well.

it's not hard to figure out why either. a modded e46 m3 is going to have way more hp at higher RPMs (and a higher redline) than a modded 335i.

the 335i definetely will have more torque at an earlier RPM (500lb/ft at flywheel @ 2300RPM is possible), so it really should win the battle early, only to be killed once the M gets into its powerband.

just my thoughts

You need to work on this to change it to the opposite. But I know you are working on it already

Against a stock M3 no doubt, but if we had started in 2nd it would have been a bigger jump, we'll do that next time, but from 2nd my car is a different animal, 3rd is by far my weakest gear.

Sherwin posted the vid from his vantage point as well which is a better view. If you can't tell the outcome of the video, regardless of how dark it is then you need help, but no doubt daytime vids would be better, but it is what it is. It's hard to get a group of enthusiasts to meet during the week, in the daytime, we'll try some weekend GTG's to shoot some pulls.

I didn't spend 13K, Jon. I think you need to spend quite a bit on the 335I as well to get 430WHP on 91. If there's anyone out there that can get those #'s, it's Sherwin, I have tons of respect for him, a very cool cat and I bet he's sold a TON of procede's for Vishnu, it's a shame that he doesn't have V2 yet, but since he's not local I guess it makes a "little" sense.

Good times Sherwin, the FMIC looks outstanding, we'll set up another meet soon. I have little doubt that in the near future you will be right there with me or ahead. :rocks:

Hey there! Yeah I just threw that number there based on some retail pricing and labor. I'm sure you got some better pricing though which is a big plus. I saw you ran at German Invasion and was impressed in the times you were getting.

There def is faster "FI" M3's out there. 320WHP NA, stock internals? Sounds like a happy dyno for sure. When all I had was 3.91 gears, and BHS pullies, I ran even with a car that had just about every bolt on available with 4.10 gears, bolt on mods do very little, traps and comparo's indicate this.

Can you take procede 335I's or is it close? N/A my car was close to full weight, made roughly 278ish WHP, and every stock 335I with procede I ran was a decent run.

You crazy, lol, FI doesn't ruin the S54 in the least, the linear powerband is the same, the smoothness is still there just more power on tap, very streetable, etc. and the AA kits have more than proven the reliability of boost and the S54, celebrate. :rocks:

No worries Bro, basing on all the mods people usually do besides FI, your guess was good! But there's people that are all NA, full exhaust, cams, intake, throttle bodies, etc, that have spent just as much as I did, yet are nowhere near the performance. You can def get up there $ wise when you mod the E46 M3. I still am on the stock X pipe and exhaust, so I could def get near the 13K soon.

I did not do well, but there's a reason, lol. I think Jon is being kind about my times, hehe. I've only ran at LACR after I installed the SC'r, probably the worst track in the United States, and it has since closed.

When I was NA I hit 13.6 at 100 there, a solid time for the conditions. When I was stage 1 398WHP I hit 13.2 at 108 with a pretty bad 60' and I spun the tires in 1st and 2nd gear, didn't do well ET wise, but I picked up 8MPh in my trap which is what I was hoping for. Not to make excuses, but I will anyway, lol, the car had some initial problems with the software and the rev limiter was at 7700, it is now near 8K. Since the increased rev limiter and fixes, the car has ran fantastic.

To give you an idea of how bad LACR was, the adjusted altitude was over 5000'. Again when I was NA I trapped 100 at LACR, but 108 at Sacramento, lol. An 8 MPH difference!! Turbo charged cars do not suffer as much as NA or SC'd cars at high altitude, there is no wastegate to compensate. That day at LACR a 996TT trapped 106, RS6 102, etc. AA supercharged stage 3 M3 hit 108 as well, really bad times and traps.

335I's actually did damn good, hotrod's was stock I believe and he was running with the procede cars. The Biturbo stage 3 S4's did fantastic as well, however they were trapping 6-8MPh slower than sea level as well, but at that altitude and temp, everyone was way down on power compared to sea level.

So with stage 2 now, running at Sacramento and based off the many cars I've ran, I should be in the 12.1- 12.4 area at 118, we shall see this February when I take a trip up.

Not a happy dyno...my M3 put down around 278 RWHP stock and my 335 did 281 RWHP stock. Obviously the 335 has a huge torque advantage and my M3 has pretty much everything short of cams and traps around 111-112mph. My 335 put down almost 345 RWHP and is over 400 lb/ft and it still pulls my M3 from a roll especially under 80mph or so. The M3 still pulls up higher especially in the triple digits but it's also about 300 lbs. lighter than my 335. The hole shot is all about the driver but my M3 is easier to launch but it has bigger stickier rubber on it too.

111-112 traps are very impressive for an NA M3, what ET did you hit, any time slips?

I think your weight reduction did alot for you. Lee Mathews trapped 112 with a completely stock exhaust, bolt on's and drag skinnies with alot of weight reduction, no way he was making 320WHP, that guy def had driving skills though.

Yeah...Lee can drive his ass off no doubt, I'll dig up some slips...my best ET is 12.6 so far but I've never run anything but street tires (285 SO3's). The weight reduction is very noticable and definitely made a HUGE difference. I remember when Lee ran a 12.7 I think in a basically stock M3 and nobody believed it until the video was posted...he could probably pull off a 12.3-12.4 in my car.

That was fun going to Famosa. I think the Grey M3 posted on my list is one of the runs that Drew did. I was in the white M3 SMG. I think of the stock M3s, mine was one of the quicker ones. I was impressed how Drews was a few miles per hr faster than mine. But I think my ET was still within a tenth or two, not bad for a bone stock M3. Interestingly enough..the stock GTOs were not running close to 12's at this meet either. Makes you wonder about the GTO guy claiming the regularly run in the high 12's. How about that 14.62 from the SRT8 guy thinking that he could run mid 12's !!
