Window Tinting?

Just ordered my TiaSilver 330 with Black interior. Just wondering how much window tinting do you guys think I will need. The dealer says that here in the California any tinting above whats already on the car is illegal, but its only a fix it ticket so alot of people do not worry about it.

What do you think? None..... Light to Medium..... or Heavy.....

Thanks...

I say go for light to medium. I've had real dark tint in the past and it looks cool in the day but it was a pain to drive around at night someimtes cuz it cut down on visibility so much. A light to medium tint will look perfect on a TitanSilver!

I've got a TiAg/ Beige e90 with 20% tint all around. I had the a TiAG E46 a few years ago with 30%, but I like the 20% better as it looks cooler exterior-wise and it gives more privacy. If you drive around in unlit areas often, however, it can be a pain because of reduced visibility at night. If you're in the city though, you shouldn't have a problem.

Dealer just emailed me. Told me tinting would cost 395 + tax. I went WTF. I emailed her back Y so much. In my area tinting cost about $200 bucks top and maybe $100 to remove tops. BTW I have power shades in the back i dunno if this is a factor, or the dealer getting charged 200 bucks and then putting a dealer fee on it. It looks I be calling some good window tinters in the area to see how much they charge.

I also freaked when i heard about how much it cost. When you shop around, may sure you get the 'ceramic' tint. Search in this forum and you should find the previous thread on this topic.

My dealer told me it was $450. I laughed and said nevermind. Someone else on the post said they paid $250. Gone are the days when ceramic used to cost $175.

$400 What a ripoff! The dealer really is called the "stealer" for a good reason. Sheesh.

Looks are subjective and when you get right down to it window tinting is really personal perference. Also, interior color will make a difference on how dark the tint looks. That said, I just had my new 330i with black interior tinted 35% all the way around with the exception of the front windshield. On the front, yes I said the front, I tinted the whole windshield 50%. I really like the way it came out, but again it's really just opinion.

From an objective point of view, my Yukon has 20% down the sides, 5% limo in the rear, and nothing on the front. It is a pain in the a@# at night. I have to roll down the window to back up when clearance is questionable. At night and when it's raining, forget about it.

No, not at the dealer. I used a guy I have been using for years. He even tinted some windows at my house. He works out of a shop in Ontario, California. I'm sure if you shop around just a bit you will find similar pricing.

What brand name(s) make the best tint? I'd like it be looking good after 3 years and want to know if there is a really good brand out there that cuts out the UV and heat better than others. Do bubbles result from a bad install or a bad product or both?? Thanks.

There is a little shop here where I live (Military Post Vilseck, Germany). People come from other posts far away, sometimes over 50 to 80 miles to get tints. I already have an appointment and they are going to charge me $290. But the do a really good job. They were the ones that did the job on my "Baby Lex"

Yeah. There are really good tint products out there, but I couldn't tell you who makes them. My father's E34 535i had really nicely done tint on it. It sat around outside in the heat of the High Desert in Victorville, CA without any bubbling whatsoever. It was done through the dealer (Savage BMW). I don't know who they used to put in the tint. Sorry.

marcus, look into the Lumar brand. Lifetime warranty (whatever that means) and comes in all different tint % and finishes. I've heard/read some good things about it.

I don't know much about tinting, but is there something out there like a mirror finish for your windows? I'm not so much interested in tinting for blocking out the sun as I am for privacy reasons. Basically, is there a tint that will be difficult to see what's/who's inside the car from the outside, but still let in plenty of light from the outside to the inside cabin. Thanks.

I found this on a google. He is in CA too bad I am not close enough for him. He looks like a reputable place and he has tons of pics and explains the diffferences and he carries a good amount of brands. Suntek Infinity OP and V-Kool looks cool.

Ask for mirror tint. But is not legal and cops generally would bust your chops a lot for those. Or you can get < 5% tint which almost looks solid black. Cops will bust your chops for that also.

WANTED: GOOD PLACE TO TINT WINDOWS IN SEATTLE AREA.

I absolutely HATE bad tint jobs! Anyone in the seattle area know of a good place to go? Money is NOT an issue... i'd rather pay extra to ensure a good tint job. Thanks.

Will the tint mess up the auto dimming mirrors as the sensor is in the rear view mirror. Granted, the headlights coming through the rear window will not be as bright but the side mirrors will be the ones that are messed up!

What is ceramic tint? When I have had my cars tinted there were two choices,

1. Ink dyed film (cheap, bubbles and does not last)
2. Metallic film (more expensive, last and looks good)
