For Sale: Genuine BMW Performance Big Brake Discs and 6 Piston Callipers
Genuine BMW Performance Front Big Brake Disc and 6 Piston Callipers including larger rear dust guards and retaining bolts (not in photos) all in original packaging.
I bought these for my E92 about 12 months ago. I have just sold the car so now selling the brakes separately as BMW wanted the car returned to OEM when I traded it in. The brakes were removed by BMW Westerly in December and therefore have rusted a little in storage. I have cleaned them up but they really need to be back on a car and used to remove the remainder of the surface rust. They cost around £1,000 new, you can see from the photos these have had very little wear, around 1mm of disk has been worn away and there is still a good 9mm of pad available. I had a E92 320d, never been used on the track, the disks have a lot of life in them as I did 95% motorway mileage and they are not warped. £700 inc Next Day Courier (UK), payment through Paypal only. PM me if you are interested. Brakes on my 19" Zito's which are also be for sale. |

In daily use you wouldn't notice much difference, an improvement yes but not night and day improvement. They do stop better in the wet as water on the disc vaporises through the holes / grooves, this was the main reason I purchased them, as well as looks

Off Topic but BMW Westerly is where my car originates from!!
These are really tempting!! Argh!! EDIT: Just realised these are fronts only. Did you only have front kit fitted? Last edited by AWBimmer; 02-18-2013 at 01:04 PM.. |

335d brakes are meant to be better than these ones Sam! So don't buy them. They are an upgrade for any other model E9x except the 335x and the M3 though.

Stock 335d brakes (single piston, sliding caliper) are not better than the BMWP 6 pots.

There won't be much improvement, the 335d discs are bigger, only hampered by the calipers.
Mind you, the BMWP calipers look great, I love mine!

Tony (E92Fan) tested the BMWP setup on the Ring with his 335i and actually managed to crack a piston. Now that is a pretty extreme example really, but nonetheless it did happen. Others who have done the same (and Tony) suggest that there is no noticeable difference between stock 335i setup's and the BMWP setup when driving in reality. That's a different story on a lighter car or one which starts with a less powerful setup, but with respect to the 335i/d, buying these would be for aesthetic benefit (at best) only, and may even reduce your braking ability. You can talk about number of pistons, size, gold paint or any other technical detail you like, but the result will still be the same. The ability to compress the disk isn't reliant upon the number of piston's, it is reliant on the total compression. The 335i/d stock setup provides plenty of that. You might argue that the performance disks dissipate heat better (which I am sure they do) but as Tony cracked a piston in his set, I guess they don't do it well enough!! OP, apologies if this appears to be bashing. I am not knocking your setup and this is reportedly a great upgrade for most cars, especially those which are lighter (remember these calipers are standard on 135i coupe's) or have lesser setups to begin with. What I am trying to avoid is a member here buying a setup which is not suitable for them or their car. Matt |
