E90 diesel shopping? 320? 325? 330?

Good day all

Been in the market a while for a new motor. Think I've finally settled on a e90 diesel. Diesel purely because of work now so need a bit of economy. Now I was settled on a 320d LCI model. But feel I may miss the power of my Z4. So was thinking about getting it remapped.

But thought if I get it remapped, I'm just going to work it harder, so is it worth me getting maybe a 325d or a 330d? Now I must ask, how are people finding the real world mpg on all 3 models? I would be after a manual variant in M Sport guise.

My run to work at the moment is 30%motorway 70% single lane a roads.

When were the efficient dynamics introduced to the 3 series range? As in what reg plate? 08? 58?

Hope you can help. Thanks.

My run to work is 40 miles, no motorway, 90% 50mph/NSL A roads but it's littered with traffic lights and round abouts. If I only do the work run all week I can average 42 to 44mpg. I don't bother resetting it anymore and it always seems to be between 40 and 41mpg. I've done the fill up to fill up check several times and the OBC always comes out about the same. Remapped 325d auto BTW.

Hi Luke.

I have an 07 330d with 231bhp(the older engine)and a manual gearbox, and I think its great. Had an 03 Z4 3.0 also with 231bhp a few years ago. The Z4 was quicker if you revved it hard, but the 330d is just effortless, its a real joy. In terms of mpg, I used to get about 27mpg out of the Z4, with same driving on the same commute(35miles each way of 70% motorway)i now get about 42-43 mpg, a fair difference. Also my Z4 needed the higher octane fuel to run well so my fuel costs per litre haven't really changed.

wouldn't mind a 335d. but think it would cost too much to run for my self.
at the moment i'm spending around £240 a month on petrol (fuel is £1.36 a litre) round here

i need to see gains of around 10mpg on what i get now. my z4 as it stands is giving me 36.2mpg with the run to work.

so would a 330d end up costing me the same amount as my z4 a month for fuel?

In my 330d (245bhp) auto - I mostly do motorway driving... in M25 traffic & averaging 36-37mpg!

But on longer journeys (no traffic) 40-42 easily!

In my 335D if i drive like a granny on motorways with the cruise set @ 70mph i get around 46-48mpg (via OBC). Have even seen 49mpg but only the once!

However when i drive in stop start traffic in town it goes as low as 24-25mpg, 20mpg if i drive like a nutter!

To be honest with you I've heard from a few 320d owners round town u will most likely be getting between 33-40mpg and on motorway between 46-55mpg which isn't the best I own a 320d efficient dynamics model(163) I get 45mpg local and bout 60mpg on motorway

36mpg out of a 2.5 Z4 is bloody impressive - I changed from a 3.0 Z4 (231ps) where I averaged 30.1mpg over the 3.5 years I owned it, to averaging 27.8mpg in my 330i.

I reckon you need to stick to the 320d if you want significant reductions in fuel outgoings. I almost went for a 320d as the mpg figures sounded so appealing, but I cover so few miles (around 6-7k p.a.) that heart won for me...

I have a 325d and back when I was going a 30mile trip to work then back again, I was getting between 44-47mpg, but that was like, 40% motorway, 60% country roads.

Now my drive to work is 9 miles there and 9 miles back, I'm getting around 36-38mpg.

Every now and then I have to drive over 100 miles for work and back again. Last 3 times I've averaged 52mpg.

However my car has had the DPF removed (but also had a remap..)

I don't think you will find much difference in mpg between the 325 and the 330. For me the 330 is worth the extra fuel costs over the 320

The newer 325 have the same engine / internals as the 330.... it's only been detuned! Not many about tho!?

so having a DPF removed has an affect on MPG? how much of a job is that?

I feel that if I do get the 320D I will be working the engine too much to get it too work. I've seen a few 325D's about.

I've even looked at the brand new 320D's. on bmw select, just the monthly repayments are too much for me.

see when I read that, that sounds great! how do you find power output? is it good for over taking?

if i get a 320/330 remapped, am I likely to see better mpg?

what makes me think, is that a 330d is cheaper to buy than an lci 320d. so that makes me think the first years costs would be cheaper for a 330d than maybe a 320 as their more expensive to buy

edit: just seen this - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...9135?logcode=p

looks a good price for a 58 330D M Sport. but find it odd, that there's the normal gear knob on it rather than the m sport shifter.

how much range are people getting to a tank on a 330D then?

this is such a head mash for me! ideally I want a 330D. but don't know wether i will see what I want in terms of economy for it.

has anybody got a link where I can maybe get some real world MPG's?

If you do mega miles get a 320d, if you do big miles get a 330d and if you do average miles get a 335i

That looks like a cracking car.
Xenon lights
Heated Leather
Black
M-Sport (bit weird bout the gear stick...)

Just over 10k for an LCI with 76k seems great.
