It is free for a year and it costs $200 per year after that. For what they offer, seems like a good deal.

As long as you have your cell phone. No need for it. IMO. |

Mostly it's peace of mind. You get to talk to a BMW rep in case of emergency or, God forbid, if you are in an accident they get the notification and they can summon the emergency vehicles to your position without you having to call 911. On top of this, they assist with flat tires and towing (and all mechanical failures) and you can even call them for directions and phone numbers. They will send that information to your Nav. There are other features, but you have to look them up, I don't know them all off the top of my head.
As well, the same features in a GM car will cost you twice the money (or so I've heard). |

Towing to the nearest BMW dealership is covered. Not sure where they get the info from. Everybody has Google Maps on their phones now, too bad the Nav can't receive the info from your phone.

You need to go to google maps, type the address in and you should see an option of 'send' under the 'more' section. Once you click on 'send' it has the option of send to car and you put in your information from there and it will send it. You will need BMW assist account name to be able to do this.
