Leasing and Over Miles

If I wanted to lease for 24 months and return the car with a ton of extra miles over the lease, how forgiving is BMW assuming I want to step into another car???

BMW won't forgive anything. Now, the dealer might be willing to eat some or all of the cost if you're leasing/buying another car from them so it depends on how good your negotiating skills are.

At the rate I'm driving I'll be 12K over at the end of my 3 year lease! I'm just going to buy the car.

BMW doesn't forgive any miles as mentioned above. And as also mentioned, it's up to the dealer and usually if they offer to "take care of it" then you're usually paying for it anyway since they roll it into your new deal somehow or give you less of a discount than they otherwise would. For example, "$500 over invoice" or "$1500 over invoice and taking care of 5000 excess miles" nets out to the same deal. There is no magical slush fund that covers excess miles.

I'm turning in my car next week and I'm already 13k miles over. Just suck it up and pay for them. If you're far enough out, BMW will give you a "deal" of $0.16 instead of $0.20 per mile.
