First service

I have my car for around 5 months now and is under 2000 miles. I work in downtown NYC so I take the train to work; that's why the low mileage. The car is awesome and don't have any issues.

My question is do I need to bring it in for a checkup (every 6 months like my previous cars) or I bring it in after the 1 year? I also hear that BMW will take care of the oil change, etc. for low mileage cars only yearly. What are you guys opinion of what I should do?

The car has a maintenance minder built in. Mine still says something like 12k miles or 1 year from the build date. I'd wait. I don't think they'll do anything for you even if you ask.

The warranty covers only when the car indicates it needs an oil change. This can easily be over a year and over 15,000 miles.

I seem to recall seeing an article saying BMW will cover dealers to change oil on low mileage vehicles (under 6000 miles a year) on a yearly basis with no issues. Anyone seen this?

If you ask, they'll do it once a year and call it "low mileage" service.

I just had it done at 1 year and 6,500 miles. Changed wipers, oil change, software update, etc. The Date on my car stayed the same and the indicator says 10k miles to next service. There was some note that they were supposed to keep it this way. At first I thought they just forgot. So right now my car is saying it needs to be serviced in December in 10k miles.
