Next Generation NAV - how different?

I have a 2012 X3 with the previous generation of BMW's NAV.
Can someone please tell me how the newest or next generation NAV will be different? I'm planning on getting the 4 series convertible next spring and I am curious as to how the NAV will be different because the one I have in my 2012 X3 is only fair.

Stop by a dealer and check it out in a 2013 5 Series, 7 series or any Active Hybrid.

More of an upgrade then the next generation Nav. Wait till the touchscreen knob comes to the US.

One reason to the new Nav is how fast it boots. Your current CIC can take 15 seconds or so to boot when you start car. New Nav boots in 3 seconds or less.

BMW Nav has been rated number 1 by most auto reviewers (for several years now). Number 1 mostly because its intuitive and easy to use (compared to other systems). I would think BMW is going to be real careful in making any radical user interface changes. One reason is that loyal BMW drivers don't necessarily want to get a new car and then be required to spend days learning a whole new system. So, BMW takes baby steps.

The new NBT Nav has much better hardware (than CIC) and can do more than it does currently. The question is whether BMW decides to try to push the envelope a bit.

Yes, the touch iDrive controller is interesting and I hope they put it to good use. Time will tell.

Does anyone know if the touch controller will be available from 07/13 production for the F30 series?

I doubt it as they elected not to put the new unit in the My 2013 F30 except the AH.

They put it in the MY2013 F31 (although not the US version for some reason I believe).

The 6 series/new X5/5 series are all getting the new touchpad from 07/14 production.

It would be strange for F30 range not to get the updated touchpad seeing as it's being rolled out in other models and has recently been shown off at the New York motor show.

Exactly the same as last year. Other areas received the new Nav system except for NA.
