Unhappy Tiny dent in my 335d

Cleaning the car for the first time today I noticed a tiny paint chip just to the rear of the drivers door. On closer inspection, once cleaned I noticed that it was also a tiny dent too. Took some pictures although it is difficult to show the dent, the sunny day and clean paintwork makes it obvious to the naked eye. It looks to me like someone has opened a car door onto it, right height. The paint chip has exposed the white primer underneath, it must be about 3 mmx 2mm with the tiny dent slightly larger. You can feel it when you run your fingers over it. Any ideas for the best way forward to repair.

Must say I am really p*****d off.

Sorry to hear about the dent and chip makes me mad when people just open car doors without thinking. Nevermind - there is a solution. Try these guys at www.clean-image.co.uk They are fantastic - did the superguard protection on my car. They're a SMART repairer too, which means they can repair the dent and chip without taking the car into a bodyshop. The results are damn good too.

Good luck!

Ouch - that's a crapper...bet it was a supermarket asbo pensioner.

Always seems to be the victor meldrews and the Hyacinth Buckets that smash their car doors in to mine.

Hmm not sure whether a touch up pen and some wet sanding action will cure that one - hard to tell from the pics. Possibly though.

The dent might be able to be rodded out by one of those geezers with their magic sticks and levers.

My first post but this is such a pet hate of mine that it's definitely worth a reply. So sorry this has happened to you. Some moron in a car park not giving a t**s about what they are doing, no doubt. To quote Alan Partridge "Scum, sub-human scum".

Ref the chip, a specialist chip/dent repairer will be the way ahead really IMO. If you're going DIY (and I would on the paint if you're not getting the whole lot done soon), get the BMW touch up for LM blue, and a 00 or 000 modelling paint brush. Dab the paint in in very thin layers to the chip, letting it dry between coats, then lacquer over the top once the thickness is up to the surrounding paint. Try not to get the paint over the edges of the chip onto surrounding paint (impossible with the brush from the touch up bottle).

Good luck.

Bumps, welcome to the forum and thanks for your advice, not sure if I am brave enough to go at my car with a pot of touch up! Your white E92 looks fantastic by the way.

Thanks for the other responses. I am going back to the dealer next weekend to have a drive of their demo M3, so I shall ask their advice too.

Very upsetting, sorry it happened to you. My previous car was also brand new when it suffered a very similar dent to the driver's door - 3rd day of ownership - and for £50 one of those mobile dent-repair chaps visited and did such a good job that my very fussy eye couldn't find the mark without some serious scrutinizing. I would highly recommend going down a similar route.

The advantage I had was that the paintwork wasn't damaged, only dented. But they can fix paintwork too, I believe.

I think a BMW/approved Body Shop is the best way to go, unless can recommend a company that specialises in dent removal/touch up. Sorry to hear about the dent though. The white mark on the car wouldn't be the paint of the car that hit against it? No chance that at least the colour would polish out so its not as noticeable?

Bumps E92 M sport really does look amazing in white, but I wish people would stop posting photos of E92 M sports - its starting to make me feel uneasy about wanting one.

Pete, what an arse!!! pity you didn't see it happen
you'll get it done for about £50-60

what i will add is that with the sparkling graphite on BMWs there is a special anti mini dent additive added on application to prevent this happening-oh well

Very dissapointing especially with the car so new. Unfortunately the very day after fixing it it could obviously happen again in a supermarket somewhere.

Any hunch as to how it happened? I'm paranoid about where I park now - always try and leave a few spaces either side as I had loads of trouble with my last car (including it being keyed, tyres flattened etc.).

I reckon a dealer could maybe do a "smart repair" (Chipsaway) kinda thing on that. The visible primer might mean it is a respray, not sure. I know it is easier to touch up, wet sand and polish a scratch but I think not so when primer visible.

That must be a new addition that I didn't get in my 2006 E92 - a couple of weeks ago some careless b*stard in a beaten-up 4x4 parked next to me, threw open his door, and put a ding in my wheel arch. Grrrr...

+1 on that.

The  are every where. Just because they drive a p-o-s and treat it as such they don't need to treat other peoples property with such neglect.

I've known worse though. My E46 had a nice dent in the C-pillar from a couple of little 's who threw a beer can at it.

I'd be more worried about Carlos stalking you now he's (sort of) seen you reflected in your car....

Thats not bad.

Can you post a pic later to compare?

In the past I have just lived with these dents but you do get really pissed off. £50 is well worth the money just to regain your equlibrium.

This really annoys me!

Does anyone think the new designs of cars look good, but the lack of a door guard strip is a bad idea?

My e46 has several notches on the door guard strip either side.

I will be picking up a new car soon and it has to be parked in a public car park for work etc, so am well worried about this happening to me
