Sweet. I wonder how much trunk space you lose out with this hard-top convertibles?

One of the main reasons I've always hated soft-top convertibles is the fact that when the top is up and over, the car just feels cheap. I like the top down on good days, however. I also like the lack of pillars (or perhaps they are incredibly thin) on both the driver and passenger sides. Can anybody say "easy blindspot checking"?

Yeah, they don't have a B pillar. They have the little thin thing Squawks was referring to.

Mercedes CLK also lacks the B pillar - not a convertible as well.

Anybody here with experience with hardtop convertibles? i.e. Mercedes or Lexus? How's the road noise compared to non-covertibles? Any compromises involved?

She looks boo-ti-ful

Like Squawks I don't like the cheap look of soft-tops, but a hard top is a different story. If BM can keep the body rigidity up (and I am sure they have) then it should be a sweet handler too.

This could be the first time I have liked the look of the convertible... I wonder if the glasshouse is a preview of the normal Coupe?

I like it. But you know what they say "black is slimming". I'm intrested to see what it looks like in other colors. It might appear bigger in diffrent shades.

3 series vert's are chick cars

the hardtop's going to eat tons of trunk space and shift the center of gravity of the car upward.

a good softop can be just as quiet as a hardtop

It should be available in the states around December 2006 / January 2007. I would suggest if your friend is interested in one, he considers putting a deposit down in the next few months, already have mine down.

Do I sense some bitterness? I happen to have a 3-series convertible, and to the best of my knowledge I am not a chick! My previous roommate has a 3-series convertible, and get this, he isn't a chick either! One of my good friends dad had a 3-series convertible, and what a surprise he also is not a chick! I think you should be more considerate, especially in a post dedicated to the crazed individuals (such as myself) who are waiting patiently to purchase such car. Just because we can't justify purchasing an M3 or 6-series convertible, does not make the cheaper sibling a "chick" car by any means.

Now, I could go on to insult the sterotypes of sedans or roadsters, but I am above that

I gotta agree with Brett. 3-series convertible is not a chick car, despite the fact that chicks do love convertibles. Instead, I think the Z3/Z4 conv is more of a chick car. Smaller, prettier, more "cute". Miata is a chick car. M Coupe is *not* a chick car. M Roadster is *not* a chick car.

But it really doesn't matter. If you think the 3CiC is a chick car, oh well.

MBSLK. Was 100x quieter than rag top. The top did take up some space in the truck, but it was well worth it.

Actually, I think a Miata is more of a lesbian-chick car... (it seems that every lesbian I know drives either a Miata, a Subaru, or a pickup)...
