For my local diesel brothers and sisters, I thought it may be a good idea to create a list of local Premium Diesel stations.

I finally found my first after 1 year of keeping my eye out for them...
Shell at 8413 Lee Highway (in the merrifield area)
Minimum Cetane: 45





Please list brand address and minimum Cetane rating, photographic evidence is welcome. I will update the OP as more are found.

I think it's 40. It's cetane, not octane.

Lol, yes 40 Cetane is the us minimum. For the most part german cars are designed around European 50+ cetane fuel then modified for the poor diesel in the us...thus we'll take whatever quality we can get.

Imagine if 95% of the gas pumps read "minimum Octane 87" but it could easily be 93, 87, or 90, etc...that's the boat we diesel drivers are in, thus you can imagine we get rather excited when finding fuel certified to a higher standard.

Speaking of diesel and my recently purchased 335d - the two times I filled the tank at two separate stations the nozzle barely fits into the tank and doesn't go in very far. I feel like I have to hold the nozzle or it will snap the tank filler neck. Standard operating procedure or what?

You'll get the hang of it. The nozzle is (should be) different for diesel than for gas and your car is equipped with a wrong-nozzle restrictor. Thus, if it really doesn't fit, check to make sure you're at the right pump. If you are pumping diesel, make sure its seated then set it and forget it. Standing there and holding it or standing there in general (you'll find the nozzle cutoffs on diesel pumps aren't always so great & occassionally will overfill) is a good way to ruin your Allen Edmonds...not that I'm speaking from experience or anything...

Based on research it appears that there are truck-sized nozzles and car-sized ones. Are most stations sized for the trucks? When you say seated, that's my whole point - it doesn't look like it's seated at all, the spring on the nozzle doesn't really even get compressed. As in it's barely in.

I did stand as far away as possible doing the long reach, lol!

Next time I'll try and take a pic of how far the nozzle actually fits

I'm now curious to know if a high-flow nozzle will/will not fit in our cars, but candidly I've never had an issue other than user error.

bump. awesome! Just picked up a 335d yesterday so will be keeping an eye out in the CT area as that seems sparse.

Just curious, but what is gained by going with the higher cetane fuel? Are you tuning for it the same way someone would tune a gasoline car for 93 vs race gas, etc?

The higher the Cetane the better and cleaner the burn is, Infact If you guys aren't running the premium fuel you should really use an additive every tank. we have a few customers(we work on tons of light duty diesel trucks) who always run additive and they have much cleaner oil every 5k, they get better fuel economy and have had few to no injector failures. this is mostly on the 6.0L ford diesels which are notorious for failing injectors and a rash of other problems.

While there are no immediate effects, the long term effects are real, This subject is well argued all over the internet, but im just throwing my personal experience out there, If you were to run 50 cetane fuel I bet you would notice a difference

Right on, x. I wish we could find 50cetane around here. Most of the stations I've run into are 40. Even the one I posted in the start of this thread has now changed their rating. Keep an eye out, all!
