BMW CCA - L.A. Chapter - HPDE Spring Mountain, Pahrump, NV

Registration for this racetrack just opened. I think this may be the first time in over (ten+?) years that the club has been to this track.

Great news! We've secured Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, a premier MEMBERS ONLY track in Pahrump, NV., for our second track school of the year! Enjoy beautiful club house environment on a beautifully paved, 3.1 mile long course! Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch has dedicated a ton of money and resources to keep this facility in tip top shape, and have continue to upgrade and improve the amenities provided on-site. This is truly a country club experience for us track junkies!

Okay, registration is now OFFICIALLY open. We're trying to price this as aggressively as we can, when's the last time an L.A. Chapter weekend school went for $449?!

Fixed the instructor sign-up glitch too, if you (Mocohead and SergioK) have problems signing up as instructors, let me know and I'll see if I can find an easy way to fix that.

After Reviewing, the scolding was so bad in my first video I won't post with audio. I wasn't anywhere near the worst out there.

Thanks Phil! Hey that video didn't have me scolding...right?

It is going to be hellishly hot out there but I really want to go to that track so I might just deal with it.

Oh, no I was talking about my video from the event. Not Phil's.

I think that'll be too hot for me... I don't even like Socal during summer. HOT!

To quote my favorite comedian John Pinette - That's what the paramedics said as they loaded me into the ambulance - it's a good thing it's a dry heat Mr. Harris

It's going to be hot ANYWHERE except Laguna Seca and MAYBE Sears any time after May.

At least we have the air-conditioned club-house available to us. Hopefully we can all stay relatively cool off track.

What's the LA Chapter policy on stock convertibles with fixed roll hoops (i.e. E89)? Are those cars allowed to do HPDE or is it autocross only?

All BMW club chapters must follow national guidelines. So, it's not an individual chapter's policy.

I am on my mobile right now so I don't have the link to national guidelines to give the specifics but aftermarket rollover protection is required, I am just not sure of the level of aftermarket rollover protection.

Bummer.

Can't you let the E89 slide through as a "coupe" per the manufacturer's marketing literature

Spring Mountain Motorsport Ranch HPDE is in danger of being CANCELLED!

I received this e mail today:

July 13-14th Spring Mountain Motorsport Ranch HPDE is in danger of being CANCELLED!

No kidding folks. We're less than a month away and so far we've only got 5 participants signed up. While losing the deposit is going to hurt, losing double that to rent a private, member's only track for 2 days just for 5 participants is going to hurt a lot more.

Spring Mountain is a PHENOMENAL facility. It truly is. Beautiful club house. Smooth, perfect track surface. Technical track with lots of fun turns, sweepers, long straights, and just about everything under the sun.

Members pay up to $40,000 a year to enjoy the rights to use this facility. We get to do it for $449 per BMW CCA member. This opportunity won't come around ever again if we have to cancel the event.

If we do not get more than 30 attendees in the next 7 days, I (the chapter DE Registrar) will make the executive decision to cancel the event. So if you want to go...Sign up NOW. If you know someone that wants to go or SHOULD go, tell them to sign up NOW.

Ouch. BMW and other track events are often sold out around the midwest. Sorry to hear the event is in jeopardy. This is great opportunity to reach out to others who may be new to HPDEs and get them involved.

Feel free to contact National:

http://www.bmwcca.org/contactform

No matter how we feel about the rule wrt convertibles, we are BOUND by the minimum operating standards set forth by the organization that govern our existence. The convertible owners are a big and vocal contingency of the club, be big and vocal to the powers that be to change the rules.

And if that still doesn't help, run for national office. In my experience, sitting around on the sideline complaining never helps. Get in the game and change it from within.

^ What he said! The Club is an all volunteer organization. If members want to see the Club work differently, they should step-up and help make the Club what they want it to be.
