ACS and M5 20" rubbing
Hey guys,
I have a 550i with ACS springs and just put on a new set of M5 343m rims with Michelin PSS. Tires and rims make all the difference but certain bumps cause the tires to hit what I assume is the wheel well. My Msport stock 19" rims were fine. If two guys are in the back seat it's unbearable. Any simple solution to raise it slightly? Even solo it's impossible to drive in comfort mode. Thanks |

I assume you've got the OEM M5 tiresize, 295/30/20 in the rear?

What rims I have the advan gardes with xdrive offset is 35 and 38
Tires are 245/35/20 and 285/30/20 with hartage springs that drop you about 1.18 have not driven with a full load yet but when installing installer could hardly fit his finger between the wheel and control arm that's how close it is. So far no rubbing for me but I also worry under full load |

I've had a full load on my Avant Gardes with 10.5" in the rear on 285/30/20 with ACS and no rubbing at all. Somethings not right since the 343M M5 wheels are 10" in the rear.

Vinfast - You're running 285/30s in the rear, on 10.5". Isn't that pulling the sidewall in? I was told to run 295/30. Actually getting them put on next week.

Since it's lowered, I was advised by my tire shop to stick with the tires I had on my previous wheels which were 9.5". They were afraid they would hit the 10.5" rims. This is the max size rim for the 285/30/20, and it does pull the sidewall in a little, but with no problems.

I am running Michelin PSS 295/30/20 Michelin PSS 255/35/20 When I say its impossible to run in comfort mode I just meant it is more bouncy and therefore rubs 5x more often than in sport mode. It does rub in the front but only when going over large bumps and not that frequently. The rear is the main issue and it appears as thought the edge of the sidewall is rubbing against the edge of the fender- I can see about a 1/2 inch of rubbing prior to the thread. The car is fantastic with the PSS' and the ACS springs so really bummed. Any advice is welcome Last edited by Tuffyboy; 05-17-2013 at 12:55 PM.. |

The 343M M5 wheels is ET34, and yours are probably a higher offset.

My offsets are 35 and 38 and. A running the 245/35/20 and the 295/30/20
I don't notice any off that the tires look perfect. Seemed like the way to go and what most are ruining after all my searches. I also thought you need to keep the diameters as close as possible if you have an x drive |

I have OEM M5 rims with 255 front and 285 rear and lowered. No rubbing, but I can see how if I'd went with a 295 on my rear. I can see it to be a problem. With 285 rear on OEM, it sits flushed to the fender. I'll try and take a pic for you.

I believe the OEM wheel is 10" with an ET34. The AG's ET is 38 so I'm thinking it will pull the tire more into the wheel well. How is your inside clearance. Doesn't the stock M5 run 295/30x20? Aren't their wheel wells the same?

Inside clearance is not a problem. I've got over 1.5" (40mm) from inside the OEM 351M wheel to the strut.

I believe the M5 runs 295/35/20 on the rear which is a taller sidewall which I think would definitely hit the wheel well if lowered.
