Yea! Is it just looks or is there more to the M Package, like engine mod or suspension improvements... anything?

You know that pic might attract unnecessary attention... This thread might turn into a Nazca discussion.

Anyway, The M package is not available in North America yet.

Here's a quote from BMW Press Release:

"The M Sports Package for even more outstanding behaviour.

The optional M Sports Package for the 3 Series Saloon and Touring com*prises features such as BMW’s sports suspension, the Aerodynamic Pack*age (front and rear air dam and side-sills) with foglamps, as well as exclu*sive light-alloy wheels (17 or 18 inches) with different-sized tyres front and rear. The package is then rounded off by sports seats, the M leather steering wheel, special aluminium decorative trim, the M footrest, and M door entry trim."

ok let me be a bit more specific......

Does the actual structure of the steering wheel differ from the "sport" version. I know the trim and badge are different but is it the same diametre and thickness?

Also are the seats the same as the ones in the sport package?

And the"short shifter"... does this mean the shifter is just cut lower or are the throws actually shorter?

Oh yeah and how much lower is the M suspension from the "sport" one?

Thanks

Yes steering wheel is different. Same diameter, but much thicker, with perforated leather. No compararison in terms of feel with the regular sport steering wheel. really a MUST !

Seats are the same as sport package, altough you get mixed clothe/alcantara

Shifter is just shorter (leather with M badge on it)

M suspension is the same as sport suspension.

That sucks about the shifter, suspension and seats though.

Seems like it would be worth it to just get a sport 330 and add the Msteering wheel (if its that much better), since I'm not that big a fan of the Mbody and wheels.

Package doesnt really seem to offer that much M factor at all?!?

No handling or power upgrades when compared to sport package?

No upgrade on power at least for Europe.

The ZHP package was available in the US only and was equivalent to the European M package with the following addition:

- few more BHP
- Higher rev limit
- Alcanthara Steering wheel
- Red needles

Maybe they will do the same for the US market again... But with the new engines coming (3.5L L6 or 3.0L Turbo), it is less likely to happen I think... These engines will be available in Europe without the M Package, however, for the US market these engines might come standard with M Package and become the new equivalent for ZHP on E90...

Just my thoughts...

Zimzimma,
I have the M sport steering wheel; it feels much nicer than the regular sport pkg. wheel, slightly thicker with perforated leather. I also have the style 193/18" M sport alloys; they are stunning and will transform the look of the car when I install them in the spring. My dealer took in trade the 162s which came with sport pkg.You will find lots of photos of the M sport wheels on this site.

Sorry, but this is not correct.
Sport suspension is developed by BMW, whereas the M-suspension is a different product from the affiliate M GmbH. It has a different setup, also deviant parts.

So its definitely worth shopping

Hey derekS,

can you please post some pics of your car with the 193 rims on? Would like to know how they look without the rest of the m-package!

Does anybody know the BMW model or order numbers for the M Sport Shifter and steering wheel?

Sorry, I won't be installing the 193 rims until we are past the winter snow and salt. But, if you take a look at the M sport posts, you'll get a very good idea of how good these rims look on the car. After all, the side profile with the M sport front and rear aprons is very similar to the non-M profile.
Here are the part #s : 36-11-7-836-333 front
36-11-7-836-334 rear

By the way, my dealer gave me $1200 credit for the style 162 alloys. I installed the original Bridgestone RE050A tires on the 193 rims, since there is no other RFT at the moment. Hopefully, Michelin PS2 will be available in the New Year.
If you are interested in swapping your red flashing tail lights for the Euro yellow flashing ones (much safer !!), it cost me $266 to exchange.
Here are the part numbers for the Euro tail lights :
63-21-6-937-457 L rear
63-21-6-937-458 R rear
Install time is approx. 10 minutes.

Dante,
Sorry, but in my previous post, I had you confused with Zimzimma who is located in Montreal !!
Must be my advancing senility ! You obviously don't need Euro tail lights; you already have them.

Hi Derek, wouldn´t it been easier just to change the bulbs from red to orange? I think both tail lights have an orange glass?

Dante,
Both Euro and NA tail lights use the same clear coloured bulbs and bulb cluster. The only difference ( the critical one) is the Euro lens has a yellow interior, whereas the NA one is red. That's why all the North American E90 tail lights flash red instead of the proper yellow like every other BMW in the rest of the world. IMO, BMW NA made a very retrograde decision to go with red flashing tail lights. No other previous or existing BMW imported into NA has had such tail lights.

Thanks for clearing that up!

Why did BMW do such a stupid thing? Same look on the outside but diffferent inside, means extra costs in production

I would prefer clear indicators, like on all other series.
