Lightbulb AZ F30 owners - Car mods

Hey AZ F30 owners! I'm starting this thread since I noticed it is a BIG pain to mod our cars, be it after-market or even BMW's parts while staying in Arizona. AZ businesses just don't seem geared up for this kind of stuff compared to some other states (like CA). Heck even BMW dealers are themselves clueless about half the BMW original accessories and we often have to educate them.

In this thread:

1. Let us share what kind of mods we have done or are planning to do.
2. If multiple people seem to want to do the same mod, they could work together to share information and find the best deal around. Perhaps even get themselves group discounts!!

To get things rolling, here is my story:

The only major mod I have done is the MPPK. From BMW of North Scottsdale. It cost me $1500 (total - part/labor/tax). Mine was the pre 11/12 version so it was a bit more expensive. Still, I think I could have got it for lesser had I had more patience.

Next, I'm thinking of (but in no hurry):
1. BMW M Perf Suspension
2. Painting brake calipers (trying to find out if any business can do that)
3. Swap wheels to some thing else like AG M355
4. Upgrade steering wheel (no-lines steering wheel sucks!)
5. Side stripes ()
6. Rear Spoiler

All my stuff is cosmetic and I intend to keep it that way. I like the look of a slightly lower vehicle, but am not willing to make the sacrifices that come with.

My Current Mods:
BMW M Performance Grilles
BMW Splash Guards
The famous "$89" eBay Spoiler
AZ Legal Tint
Painted reflectors (front)
Beyern Spartan - Silver (19"x8.5" et 30)
245/40-19 Nitto Motivo

Future Mods:
Exhaust: Maybe...if I could find one that had absolutely no drone and wasn't obnoxiously loud.

Decommissioned Mods:
Plastidipped Style 397 sport wheels (soon to be de-Plastidipped)

Your post reminded me that I too actually have the Black M Perf grills

I have thought about getting the cheap ebay spoilers several times, but was never sure. So how did you find the spoiler? Did you get it painted to color match your car? I have an Alpine white car and been thinking of getting a gloss black spoiler for contrast.

By the way I also purchased interior dash/window and exterior B-pillars carbon fiber trims from bimmian. I think it looks pretty cool.

Late last year, this post has a link to an ebay seller in Taiwan selling a painted spoiler for $89 shipped. I had good luck with a pre-painted spoiler for my other car so decided to take a chance. Shipping was pretty fast. The Black Sapphire Metallic was a perfect match and there are no waves in the plastic at all. Nice quality part for not a whole lot of $$. I installed it myself using the 'ol calibrated eyeball. Looks completely OEM.

I'd say that decision is entirely yours. Depends on what look you are going for. Gloss or matte would look more aggressive if that's the look you're after. There was a local member who did something cool with his. He had it painted body color but on the flat top section of the spoiler, he had it painted matte black. Definitely was a cool idea.

Congratulations!! The boost is unfortunately not able to perform at its best at 112 F! Once temps go below 75, you will notice significantly better acceleration. Hope chapman@I-10 did not fleece you on labor charges.

Looking into the MPPK right now at North Scottsdale. Need to order the reflectors in BSM. Not sure what else at the moment but I know there will be more in the future as the aftermarket grows.

Chapman I-10 charged me $278 to program it. It took them a couple of hour. They said I was their first for the newer post 11/2012 kit. My car's production date was 1/2013 so it already had the correct DME installed. I bought the kit from BMW of San Diego off eBay for $850 with free shipping and no tax. So still not too bad overall. Chapman on Camelback refused to program since I didn't buy the kit through their parts department. Tucson quoted me the same price as Chapman. Scottsdale never got back to me.

I find this interesting since Cambelback and Chandler dealerships are owned by the same company....

I agree. I mentioned it to the Chandler service department manager and he agreed that it was odd. I was told this by a SA that I had been going to for a few years.
