BMW Assist

Is it included/free with purchase? I never activated mine, and am wondering if it's worth doing.

you call them by pressing s.o.s (left button from moon roof controller)
assistant will be on
tell them you want to activate your service
they will ask you the password and I believe it is BMW (if not ask your dealer)
it will be free for a year from your purchase.

I think it is quite useful sometimes because you call them and ask whatever you need in terms of finding a restaurant, a gas station or etc. they send you its route to your navigation. you basically ask them whatever you want to know regards BMW and your driving condition, they will do their best to provide answer.

I, one time, asked them if they can find a gas station where they have separated nozzle for higher octane they did send me the route...
Also when I had the accident, I asked them to send me the towing people welcome to the future!

OK, if its free, then definitely worth a shot for a year to see. Sirius wont be renewed though, I think it sucks.

Well it was a free year trial also, but the reception stinks, and its clearly lower quality than cd, ipod etc. Plus I also think the channels suck. I would like having it during football season however for their NFL station.

agree, satellite radio sounds very compressed and it's very apparent in comparison to other sources.

that being said, i have a subscription. it integrates very easily into home use with sonos, and howard stern is always entertaining.

Yes safety is free. The Convenience Plan/Concierge is extra.

I have the convenience plan and I find it is well worth it. Use it mainly to program the navigation where I tell the Concierge lady where I want to go and she enters the address for me. Also useful for restaurant reservations, movie show times etc. plus you get Yelp and Gas Prices on the Nav.

You're still able to do restaurant reservations with the concierge? They told me they stopped that back in 2010 when I still had my M3.

You're right. It depends on the agent. some do some don't. I call them a lot so I think they know me.

Yes, but telematics services like this prove valuable in emergencies. If you're unable to call for help and don't answer their calls when they are notified of an accident, they're trained to dispatch emergency services. That could mean life or death in some cases.

I don't care if someone sees that I prefer Zagat rating of 25+ and 1+ Michelin star restaurants or only fill up at Shell*. If it saves my life, great. There's enough of my "life" out there on Google, Facebook, etc.

I actually wish there were better integration between car and cloud.

Yes and it has some good features. You can send navigation destinations to your car from google maps. I bought the concierge package as well but I haven't really used it yet. It does include some extra data in the nav system like gas stations which is nice.

Go ahead and do it just for the maps capability.

That's a very solid argument to my very infantile remark. I actually did not realize assist needed to be setup in order for the accident call to be operational.

You do have to have your dealer complete some BMW Assist paperwork on your behalf before your attempt to press SOS and activate.. they can't do anything without the paperwork being done first. Just call your dealer first.
