macbook caught on fire randomly. warranty denyed!

my 4 month old macbook pro randomly caught on fire. I took it to best buy because i have a 3 year warranty that i bought and they said since i have a years warranty with apple theyre gonna send it to them.

apple denyed my warranty saying i used a wrong charger and it over heated or some bullshit like that.

now basically im screwed out of $1500 and i dont know what my next move should be.

Wtf can i do at this point?

Did you use the "wrong" charger?

I would carefully read the best buy warranty you purchased, and any information that you have on our nonstock charger.

If you used the "wrong" charger, they're gonna blame it on that, but If its the same voltage, I don't see where the problem would be. If you were using an OEM MacBook charger, then I would call back and bitch them out. I swear, every company you buy warranty from nowadays try's to screw you over.. They're always trying to deny warranty claims.

Edit: I just re-read and I realized you said 4 months.. Doesn't that mean you still have your 1 year warranty?? Just call apple and tell them their POS mbp caught on fire and you need it replaced.. That's what I would do.

There are 3 different kinds of macbook chargers.

11 inch macbook air uses a 45W charger
13 inch air uses the 45W charger
13 inch pro uses the 60watt charger
15inch pro uses the 85 watt charger

YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE A HIGHER WATTAGE CHARGER ON A SMALLER COMPUTER.

Obviously the Op has not answered the question of whether or not he in fact used the wrong changer so it be interesting to see the answer to that questions.

It is very hard to use the wrong charger even from the apple side of things since the system know what is plugged into it via the magsafe connector. With that said, I have seen people making their own chargers/power source which operate off the 12 volt aux port in cars. They usually hack up the Apple airplane 12 voltage adapter or pull a cord off an old charger and try to use them.

The reason Apple has never license the magsafe connector is they do not want people doing things which could cause the unit to catch fire especially on a plane. I am not even sure if airlines even allow charging of Laptop on plane anymore since that is when bad things happen and the fact laptop now use lithium batteries.

So to the op, did you use an non Apple solution? if so you are screwed and they some how knew what you did since they seen it before. If you did not, I would go back and challenge them on what proof if any they have that the wrong power source was use and what was wrong about it. I would not deal with Best Buy, buy go to an apple store directly.

surprised to hear that. a few years ago i got an iphone2g 2 weeks after it was released. dropped it, no external damage but the thing was fried. apple replaced it the same day no hassle.
