No Night Mode?

I just got my car (used 2013 335i) last week and have driven it a few times at night. I noticed that regardless of the mode (day/night/auto) the color of the nav never changes. It always stays in day mode. This is very annoying as its super bright when i drive in the dark. Is there anyway to fix this? I updated the idrive program from BMW and there doesn't appear to be any change. I have also messed around with the other options (3d view, etc) but wasn't able to determine if that had any effect (I might have missed a couple of options though).

Anyone have any ideas?

+1, I just picked up my new 335 and when i was looking at the map settings there was no check box next to the "day/night mode" like there was in my 2011. That would be really annoying if there was no night mode. I assumed they finally made it automatically switch based on some light sensor (like other nav screens have been doing since the late 90s).

My e90 never switched automatically and it was very annoying so I never really used the night mode.

My F30 switches automatically between the modes however it does seem a bit sensitive and will switch even with decent lighting...say like under an overpass.

So I think i figured it out- If you have the traffic display turned on ("grey map") it doesn't seem to switch over. I'm not sure if there are any other changes that can be made so that night mode shows up with the traffic turned on.

^^Yup...figured that out this week...was thinking my nav unit was defective or something, but that's what fixed it.

I leave my screen in night mode 24/7.

It's just as legible and it simply looks better.
