MY BMW Remote Update

In addition to some updates for Google Map integration, it appears that the remote unlock function is being taken away in order to reduce unintentional unlocks. The description states you now have to call BMW Assist to get a door unlock.

So, with the app I cannot pecondition my car (in the US) and now cannot unlock the car, so I am left with honking the horn and flashing the lights.

But we can still lock the doors with the app, even if we need to call BMW Assist to unlock them?

I am U.K. based and have just downloaded the update.

In the U.K. we do not seem to have the option for the Horn, but we can still pre-condition and flash headlights and remote lock / unlock.

That is total BS. I'm reverting to the old app. I should have full control of my car.

this by far is the worst update to the app. I mean why shouldn't I be able to unlock my car via the app? What's the purpose of the app if we can't use it to be able to do this? I sometimes don't take my keys with me if I have to get something fast from my car, but I always have my phone on me, so I unlock the car, and then lock it again with the app. So now it does no good at all.

Update: I deleted the app from my iPhone (as I updated to the new useless version today) and restored the app from my MacBook. All is good now that I am back on the previous version of the app. I can unlock my doors again. Phew!

Your BMW Assist email address and a password was selected when your dealership setup BMW Assist. Call BMW Assist for help (press the SOS button so client relations told me).

Could they not just have added a prompt box making sure you want to unlock the doors? IMO if you can't understand the difference between lock and unlock, you shouldn't have the privilege of owning a BMW.

They should have secured the app with a 4 digit PIN. Or secure lock/unlock with a 4 digit PIN.

Was this facetious? My BMW Remote requires a 4 digit pin logon to access. Assume this is the same for everyone?

I think he meant when you select to lock/unlock the car you had to re-enter your PIN rather than be told to ring BMW Assist.

Just FYI - don't upgrade to iOS7 when it comes out. It auto-updates your apps, so you will have pretty much no choice but to run the latest. This is a huge bonus for developers, but in rare cases like this not so much for users.

Thanks, not planning on, I always jailbreak so usually a version or two behind. Hopefully they'll have more granular controls on the auto-update like Android does but Apple doesn't usually do that. IT and cell phone geek

You can turn auto-update off so it acts just like it does with iOS 6

I'd not actually looked but wondered if you could. In a way it's a shame, because it's a massive annoyance of mine that our clients don't upgrade to the latest version (even when told they have to because of their site configuration) and then I get errors and complaints from them that it doesn't work. I've still got users on a version that's about 6 or 7 releases old.

That's a tough line to draw in the sand....when you do retire an old version (and tick off people) to move forward with new and better tech...look at the people that complained because Apple wouldn't support the first iPhone with iOS 6...

Yeah - it's hard - but at the same time the newer versions of our app have advanced features and are much faster, so there's real benefit - but people obviously just don't care enough to update.

Sometimes also it means I'm running code on the server to handle "faulty" clients which adds load I don't need for the sake of clients who can't be bothered updating. My choice is cut them off, or suffer their laziness

What's the reasoning behind not providing preconditioning to US customers? This is the feature that I would like to use the most!
