Technically, I think it does. But, I just replaced the stock CDV with a modified one. So the whole thing still looks stock. Unless they are specifically looking for it, there is no way to tell the difference.

Also, its a acceptable risk for me.

Who did you have do it for you? Spoke to Zeckhausen about it but he can't play with the plastic shields under the e90s without a lift. He recommended Don @ mrmcar.com. Don said he could do it in an hour for like 80 + cost of the part ($35 from zeckhausen). Thinking of doing it sometime this month.

Can you explain how your driving experience is different?

I got the same advice. Don only charged me $32 labor [24 mins]....that was nice of him.

After the mod, the shifts were a lot smoother. You get a more direct response. I made my self adapt to the CDV shifting, now I have to unlearn all that.

BTW, be prepared to face some E90 bashing from Don!

Do a search for CDV or Clutch Delay Valve. Not feeling it myself.

I think the only way an aftermarket part voids the warranty is if they can prove it causes problems, extra wear or damage. Not sure if they can do that with this or not.

For the life of it and after about half a million miles on MT cars, I still can´t find what you people hate so much about the CDV. I´ve hade cars with and without, some even without hydraulics but a clutch cable instead and with my shifting style, the CDV simply is not noticable (at least not in a bad way). I simply don´t let the clutch snap out anyway, and I don´t have any problem with clutch wear. I´ve never had to replace one despite putting 160000mls on my first car. And 100000 on my second

tierfruend - I find my shifts sometimes results in a lurch as I'm completing them....never before on any other manual. This happens mostly into 2nd gear (both upshift and downshift), so I find myself inadvertently trying to avoid it (ie, staying in 3rd down to 1k rpm even when a downshift 2nd is more appropriate).

This seems definitely like a CDV problem.

I have noticed myself adapt to this shifting dynamic - have to concentrate on letting the clutch out at the perfect rate to get the car not to lurch.

saalim - did you buy the part from Dave and bring it to Don? what is specifically different about the car now?

That´s what I understand from all posts on the CDV subject. It´s just that I really have no problem shifting smoothly with or without a CDV. Today I even tried to provoke a problem by letting the clutch out exceptionally fast. As long as I match the rev´s engine (as I usually do), it doesn´t matter if I have a CDV or not and if if declutch fast or slow, The shifts simply are very smooth. In fact, due to the pretty precise engine response to the throttle of the BMW I-6es, I find them very easy to shift smoothly despite CDV. An Audi Turbo Diesel is far more difficult to shift smoothly....

When I first got my E90, it was hard to shift smoothly. I was thinking on getting the CDV modified. After about a month I finally got used to the CDV. I can shift as smoothly as I did when I had a manual car that didn't have CDV.

Which other manual cars, besides BMW, have CDV?

I am sure newer cars will have something like CDV on them, but they use different names. When I just got the car, I hate the transmission. Some of my friends thought my driving skill got worse after 4 months commute in my wife's Matrix. Any way, I learn to shift with CDV, and now I have no problem to drive it.

How's your shifting under hard acceleration? Mine used to suck which was one of the main reasons I decided to remove it rather than get used to it.

At first it was bad. After I got used to the CDV, it's been smooth. I don't even notice the CDV anymore.

if your dealer find out your warantee is shot. I know that my dealership reads this forum because they have mentioned it to me a few times. Be careful!

Only on clutch related issues (and then rightly).
