Smile

Just had some Birds B3 suspension fitted to the 335 at Darren Wood, and it's simply brillant.

Ever since getting some 19inch wheels on the car I've really been fustrated at how crashy and unsettled the ride of the car is on our pot-holed roads. I looked at various options but since I already have the Quaife LSD and uprated anti-roll bars the Birds kit seemed perfect.

The ride of the car is now just sublime, you still feel the bumps but without the crashy/unsettled bit. There is a tiny bit more body roll but the car is now just so muh more poised than before on a poorly surfaced roads. The ony downside is now I'm not as careful at avoiding potholes the which can only be bad for the wheels .

Overall I'm really surprised at how good the Birds Kit is, in terms of value for money I think the B3 suspension kit is even better than the LSD. Anyone thinking about getting the B3 kit but is unsure....just go for it

Darren Wood was also top class, and are really as good as everyone say, professional, friendly, and cheap!!!

I did not want the kit to lower the car at all, but have to say the car does look more better even though the drop in ride height has been minimal!!

Good review. It always fucks me off when some inconsiderate twat parks his push iron on top of my car though. There is loads of space for him to park it around as well.

This is likely to be the next mod I do to my car, from a similar starting position (with LSD + ARB's) so I'm glad it feels like a worthwhile mod.

Looks really nice, the subtle drop is perfect. Are the wheels SF-71's?

I too agree and very happy with my decision to go with the B3 suspension on my E92 335 is great, car stays anchored to the road even when the road is very rough.
We went on a very fast 4hr blast through the mountains with a friend of mine how has the same car as mine but with BMW performance suspension and he was bottoming out all the time through some very bad roads, but I had no such drama, it just stayed settled and planted to the corners.

Delivered price to Australia was 1155 pounds which was about the same as the BMW Performance suspension with springs delivered.
I wanted more of the OEM look than having coilovers.

I bought the kit 2nd off hand the forum, all in including the kit + install/wheel alignment about £950. Given the massive change in handling of the car its probably the best £/ mod I've done on the car

Birds b3 suspension

Greetings.

I've done it. Yippee. The Birds suspension has brought back the fun in my driving. Having a 335d (mapped by Angel tuning ) the m sport suspension was not cutting the mustard. (m sport drivers know what I mean ) No confidence in spirited driving. I can't believe how the new B3 treatment has transformed the car. Yes it was expensive but it is without a shadow of a doubt the best mod I have done on any car. The drive is so reassuring and stable on the road I can't stop smiling. If you have the money and contemplating coil overs first take a drive to Birds garage and experience a ride out in Kevin's 335i. The road he took me down I would never have driven at that speed on m sport suspension. I was gripping the door and pressing an imaginary brake in the passenger seat thinking I was in my car. Potholes and bumpy surfaces was being gobbled up. Put my mind at rest and got it fitted 2 weeks later. Now I find myself avoiding motorways just to drive down A and B roads. Nice stance as well. Just do it.

I have organised a group buy for the forum on the Birds B3 suspension set up. 2 options either just purchase or purchase with fitting. Look out for the thread in the UK forum.

Can the dampers be paired with lower springs?

I do not track anymore and fast road driving is just not feasible lol...so what is the point of having this car and the power if i cannot use it... BUT i do want the aesthetics of being a little lower at the front... the rear seems to sit just right.

Quite some change ALPINA B10 to (I assume) E9x 335d! How are you finding it? I imagine the B3 suspension upgrade has made all the difference as standard Msport setup is pretty awful. We have met, BTW, and your ALPINA B10 was a tidy motor so guess your 335d is a nice piece of kit, too Nice move

Nice write up, enjoy the mod.

You say you now have slightly more body roll, does the car feel soft?

I paid £220 including tracking/alignment. I was in Manchester for a meeting so made sense to get it fitted by DW. But you need to book quite far in advance and I was luckily they fitted me in.

Thanks,
Quaife LSD fitted at Birds. Ebiach Anti-roll bars fitted at my local garage, and the Birds B3 kit fitted at Darren Woods. I probably would have saved £200-300 labour costs if I had the funds avalible to get the whole lot fitted by Birds when the LSD was first done. But all the bits together have really transformed the car, and very happy with the result/value for money.

The main problem I found with the stock M sport suspension was it’s inability to cope with potholes/camber/road imperfections, add on to that the lack of a LSD it means on the majority of B roads you simply cannot use the power of the car without lighting up the TC system or having the car jump all over the road in a uncontrolled manner. The Birds kit allows the car to ride over road imperfections in a lovely controlled manner, add in the LSD which allows you to put power down quicker means you can go travel much much faster on the same patch of road and with a lot more confidence that the car will go where you point it regardless of what road imperfections may be present.

So yes there is a tiny bit more body roll, but the car is actually a much faster machine than before…so no it doesn’t feel soft
