Anybody had a tire lose air just one time?

Hey all,

Just wondering if anybody else experienced this. Was driving home today when my tire pressure warning went off. Pulled over as soon as possible at a gas station and checked the pressure.

Rear drivers side tire was low. Like 20ish psi low. Other tires were all fine. Checked the tire as thoroughly as possible. Didnt appear to be any nails or punctures. The tires are only about a month and a half old. I didn't hit any potholes or curbs or anything like that.

I refilled the tire and drove home, a distance of maybe 8-10 kms. Checked the pressure again and it was perfect. Just wondering if anyone knows what could have caused that one tire to be so much lower than the others? Heat maybe? Obviously if it happens again, there's an issue but I was just curious if anyone else has ever experienced this?

Thanks in advance! You guys are awesome.

I had this happen a few weeks ago and it turned out to be a nail. I checked it as best I could (mine was the rear also) and I didn't see anything. Brought it to the shop. They found it and patched it. I doubt temperature alone would bring it down to 20 in a month and a half. Also, you'd see it in all four tires if that was the cause.

Check it tomorrow and see if you're still good. I was losing 1-2psi per day.

Hah, that's weird. My left rear tire has been doing this same thing lately too and about the same loss of tire pressure, 15-20. I just check it every couple of weeks now and add air when necessary. No signs of punctures on my tire either.

Haha. No, not I didn't. I've heard worse stories though. Hell hath no fury. Yeah, it might be a small puncture. Dammit.

Lets hope not, a single tire will take a weekend of fun out of your month!

I had it happen a few weeks ago. Refilled the tire, it held air for a week or so and then the hole got bigger and had to replace the tire. I ended up using it as an excuse to get rid of the awful runflats and get PSS's

Thanks guys. Based on your feedback, I'm gonna take it into the place I got the tires from this week as they're under warranty.

Yeah I just replaced my runflats with real tires and the ride difference is night and day! In sure you've found the same.

Best way to spot a leak is the good old soap and water trick. I'd take some time spraying your whole wheel and tire combo down to see where the air is going.

Yup. Definitely a leak. Checked the pressure again today and it had lost about 5-8 psi since yesterday. Also, after parking it in my garage, when I put my ear right up to it, I can hear a faint bubbling sound. Anyway, got an appointment to get it fixed under warranty tomorrow.

Did you find where the leak was coming from?

This happened to me once. It turned out that I had a minor bend in my wheel. I'm guessing that I parked the car in just the right way so that there way a tiny amount of air leaking out, enough to drop pressure and throw my TPMS. I have no idea when it could have happened, and even soap bubble checking it didn't work because it only leaked if the weight of the car was on that spot *just* right. Long story short, a shop straightened the minor bend and it hasn't happened since.

Just had this happen last week. Tires are under warranty so i brought the car into the dealership and they revealed that the tire was fine but my valve stem had come loose. Pretty weird that it came loose because it drove find for 2 months and deflated suddenly. Once it deflated, it would only hold air for maybe 10 minutes. They tightened the valve stem and everything seems to be fine. However, i recently read that driving on run flats is okay temporarily but once you do, it is advised to replace as they become structurally damaged. Bmw didn’t seem to agree... anyone care to comment? i do have TPMS, not sure if relevant....

Several years ago, I had just mounted my winter tires, which were relatively new at the time, and the low tire pressure alert came on while driving home late one evening. I have a 2007 model, so there was no need for TPMS on the wheels, but I had the Euro version of low pressure alert system and it worked!

I rolled immediately into the nearest gas station and pumped up the passenger side rear tire. I later discovered that there was a puncture (nail), so I had the tire repaired and had no more issues.

Yup. Just had it looked at. Had a small nail in the inner part of the tread. Fixed now. Yay!
