Michelin Super Sport's
Been messing with the idea of getting rid of my all season DWS's on my 335i and going with some Michelin super sports. At the time my 3 was my daily driver. Now I have my 530i with DWS's and I only drive the 3 on the weekend and for fun. Is there any better tire tha these? From what I gather it's the bees knees.

For a good all around summer performance tire, it's one of the best. There are tires that will offer more grip though. Give them a shot! Compared to the DWS, you'll find they have exceptional dry grip.

How do they perform in the wet? IE- Hydroplaning. in FL it's an issue with wide tires. in the early 2000's I used to run Eagle F1's with that real wet tire tread. Not even sure they make that tire anymore, but it was great for Fl.

In the rain the stock Bridgestone RFTs are actually not that bad. I've been caught in some torrential downpours and they've surprised me.
I have no experience with the PSS's but from all I've heard they're better all around though. |

I have run the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 on a previous BMW and was very happy with them, especially in the wet. They are a good option and are particularly good value for the money. On my E92, I have ditched the stock RFTs and switched to the PSS and can now appreciate why they have received the rave reviews. They are a very good all rounder, comparatively smooth & quiet and have great grip in all conditions.

I, too, succumbed to the Michelin PSS siren call and decided to see what all the hubub was about after I wore out my best-value Hankooks. That $70 rebate didn't hurt, either. So far, so good... the tires really hook up with the DTC completely off. I still kept my Conti DWS as my winter set... hehehe... but the PSS are the real deal!

The Eagle F1 Asymmetric is superior in the wet. Especially aquaplaning resistance. I have the Supersports at the moment, they are still decent in damp to wet but not even close to the Gen 1 Goodyears F1 Assymetric in really heavy rain

^ DWS's in rain pretty much suck. They did good on my heavy E39. But today it was drizzling. I head out on lunch break to hit the ATM. Car is all over the place. Not even raining. I managed to get he car completely sideways with TC on and barely pushing the car. Like a rocket on ice skates. I think they do better once temps are up. I'd like to try the GY assymetrics or whatever. the old Eagle F1 was AWSOME in the rain when I had my corvette. Wish they still made them. it was basically a F1 rain tire.

PSS does pretty awesome in the wet. If you want more aggressive tires that does great in the rain, Toyo R1R is phenomenal as well as Bridgestone RE-11 (both stickier in the dry too but both won't last as long as the PSS). If you want more comfort (still better than DWS) and awesome rain capability (comparable or even better than PSS), go with the Continental ExtremeContact DW. Good Luck!

^ light rain today again in Tampa. Heading back from the gym starting off at a red-light was unreal. I could barely get he car to start moving. Just one red-light. Maybe it had a oil slick. Cannot recommend the DWS's for FL rain. They do well anti- hydroplaning, but I'm talking about wet traction. Stinks.

The PSS have never caused troubles in the heavy rain of summer TN. We often have flash floods, and they never got me hydroplaning. As for wet traction, It takes deliberate efforts to have them slip (remember I have 330 not 335), and it takes driving like a madman to have them give, even on the wet.
For mileage, they are rated 30k miles I think, that's what I will probably get (their getting to their end now). They get harder at the end of the compound. |
