Intake valve cleaning option other than walnut blasting

I have a guy who owns a shop that has built some amazing STi cars and used to work for Mercedes as a master mechanic. He told me that he is pretty confident that he can get my intake valves descently clean by putting in a cleaner after the intake air filters so that the cleaner goes through the intake system and not the fuel system.
He said when he worked for Mercedes they did this all the time and he knows it works because he would remove the intake to check valves and they were way cleaner.
Not sparking clean like a walnut blast but damn near close he says.

Anyone familiar with this method? The price is dirt cheap to have it done too

I believe I read about this, i saw a video in some asian country doing it on youtube. Seemed like a late 90s E class. They were reving the motor and some guy had a tank spraying liquid into the motor.

it didnt show before or after.

I doubt it would do much.
I've scrubbed many dirty valves, I'd be very surprised to find a chemical that could do the same without melting the plastic intake.

How much is it?

It would have to be very abrasive or caustic to cut through the valve deposits. Don’t know if I’d want that poured into the intake tract.

I would do pony up for walnut blasting or use a brush and clean it off manually.

Anything else sounds like smoke and mirrors. I did walnut blasting and even with the tool it was difficult to clean everything off. I doubt a chemical would do any better.

I'd make a bet out of it.
If it doesn't clean the valves then it's free.
If it does do the magic he says it will, then you pay for the labor to do it and to check the valves after (if he doesn't have a borescope)

This is what Im thinking. Ill see if I can find out the name of the chemical too. I do trust him but damn the last thing I want to happen is for it to eat away at some seals or something else cause he did say itll take paint off the car in a heartbeat

It probably does work in other cars, but not in direct injected cars. They are more different than most people realize.

I mentioned that and he said it works because its going in through the intake, thus for sure hitting the valves. It doesn't get put into the fuel system

I am going to guess he is using something like the BG kit, its also what the dealerships use.

They work ok, but don't get them nearly as clean as scrubbing or walnut blasting.

This is what he said too, that it wouldn't get as clean but it would get them better than they are now. And he'd do it for $40

Ill ask if that's what he's doing, I just texted him to find out what chemical but it looks like walnut blasting is still by far the best route. Only problem is Ive yet to find one close to me here in springfield, mo
Hell Id drive 200miles to get it done

Im going to talk to him and see if he will do it for free if after doing it it hasn't done much of anything.

i would just go with the walnut blasting, the carbon build up is very thick and the thickness is what affects the performance. Additives and cleaners will only thin the build up away but it will still persist, its almost like an infection..you can suppress it by getting thru it with over the counter meds but only the antibiotics will fully take it away.

Plus if you spend these 40 bucks in 3-4 months you'll be on the same spot, might as well spend the $300-$350 most places charge and be done with it for a couple of years.

Please do not use a chemical cleaner the way that is shown in this thread. spraying it through the intake track like in this thread will cause the cleaner to hit the turbos first. And hot turbo's + any kind of fluids = no bueno.
