Question for OpenFlash users.........

This question is ONLY for people that are currently running the OTS Stage 0 and stage 1 maps. This does not apply to any other tuning system.

Has anyone had the FACTORY charge pipe pop off or crack since you flashed the map on to your car? If your CP has popped off or cracked prior to the flash, no need to answer. Im only looking for people that have had this happen after the flash.

I have read about a couple CP's popping off while running the flash, but they were using an aftermarket CP that didnt use the same style C-Clip as the factory CP uses.

I also kindly ask that this thread stays on topic to what info I am asking for. I am in no way shape or form trying to say that the OTS maps are or will cause a CP to pop off. Im just trying to get a feel if it has happened to anyone with the stock CP.

Thanks in advance.

-Nick

Whenever you run more boost through weak plastic boost tubing, there's a possibility of the pipe ripping apart/breaking/cracking. You are taking a risk running 17-18psi through the stock piping, no matter what tune you have. Boost is boost.

Yes. I understand that already.

Are you running either of the OTS flashes?

I honestly don't think E90company bashes the OF. He has his opinion based on what info is out there. It is what it is. Back on topic please.

No, I don't own the OFT. Just trying to give you some advice is all. It's hit or miss; some people can drive for years running 18psi on the stock piping, where as others won't be so lucky (I cracked mine at around 13psi). The weakest part seems to be the plastic weld where the CP connects to the TB.

+1. Doesn't matter which tune you're running. The stock charge pipe will eventually fail when running boost over 13 psi. There have been many CP failures reported by IS and 1M owners because we have a 14.5 psi overboost feature.

Running OFT and no stock charge pipe problems. On a side note I've run up to 21-22psi on the stock pipe and DVs for about 3 months, no popping but I know my days are limited lol!

Can you give some more details? Weather condition, manual or auto, what gear were you in, throttle percentage, what year is your car?

Thanks
Nick

as an FYI- ran upwards of 19psi in the midrange regularly for a few years, on the stock charge pipes from my 135i and old 335i. it's really just luck of the draw.

n55 charge pipes are notoriously weak; n54's are decent for the most part.

it was about 85 degrees out. auto. second or third i believe. Maybe like 30-40% throttle. It's a 2010 with 25,000 miles

I've noticed a pattern of only the Open Flash Users with charge pipes blowing off. I think there is some magical boost that is doing it. I blame Shiv on this one. Note: sarcasm

I'm confused how any of that information is remotely relative to the failure of the charge pipe (other than production date). It's plastic, its relatively brittle. It has a service life and high pressure/stress environments will decrease this. I don't care if your car as a CVT, as long as the engine is under load, these OTS maps target 17-18psi regardless.
