It always looked and felt lower, the original owner i guess lowered it with something. Today i noticed it when they were mounting the new wheels. You can see in the front passenger side tire the tire is actuallyFU#$ed. Discount Tire messed it up during install and have to order me a new tire -__- Last edited by tjobeid; 08-02-2013 at 11:57 PM.. |

If those are Koni yellows, you probably have the old version where the damping is adjusted by twisting the tube. You have to remove the shock body and do that.
Only the newer design ones (think the shocks are white in color) have the damping adjusting knobs on the top

Umm, no those are not coil overs. There is no height adjustment.

Not coilovers. Shock/spring combo. Looks like Koni yellows or bilstein shocks with some type of spring. I notice that bilstein offers blue colored springs in some of their kits so it may be a bilstein shock/spring kit. There should be a sticker on the shocks that say what brand they are.

That's just a strut and spring. That is not a coil over. That is essentially what every e9x looks like. Now, it looks like you have different struts and possibly springs, but not coil overs.
Probably a bilstein/Koni strut and Eibach or similar springs if it is dropped.

The fronts came with a knob and offered a flattened rod to which you fitted the knob at the strut bearing. The matching rears were the kind where you had to compress all the way and turn the body. They were all yellow. You can't generalize adjustment type to body colour. |

yeah, those are probably Koni yellows... is there enough left of one of the labels to tell or can you pick any stamped numbers off the shock bodies?
Those might be stock springs - that's just about how my car sits and as far as I know it's bone stock (still has the original BMW shocks at least, didn't look at the springs real close but I have no reason to suspect it's been modified as the PO even bought his tires from the dealership.) |

the knob on top of the front strut, under the hood is to adjust the rebound damping force. Counter-clockwise = stiffer rebound.
Like others said, this is a shock+spring setup, not coilovers. Your springs are blue, while OEM springs are black. you might be able to figure out which springs you have by searching for aftermarket springs that are blue. |
