2014 X5 Remote Engine Start.
I don't find Remote Engine Start as an available option in 2014 X5. Anyone know how to get this option (if available) on X5?
Thanks. |

As far as I know it's not something BMW has ever offered in any model. I could be wrong of course, just never heard of it being offered, or any plans of ever doing so. I would love it if they did.

I asked the dealership about the remote start and they said they don't do it. They said you might be able to get an after market but they also said you shouldnt put it in because it could mess with the computer. I would love remote start also.

Not available as factory option on any BMW in the US (unless you get a hybrid which uses the electric compressor instead of the gas engine). In Europe (and probably at some other places), there is an optional remote heating/air circulation (non-AC) feature on non-hybrids available - but it only operates using the battery - it won't start the engine.
One reason why BMW isn't offering might be that in Germany, it is against the law to have the gas/diesel engine running while nobody is in the car. I'd love to have it on a non-hybrid BMW, too, but I doubt it's going to happen any time soon. |

Thanks folks. I thought it was an option on E70. I would love to take one if offered. Its much better option than front and rear heat seats. Even better it it can just turn heat on remotely.

I think the remote heating is possible using connect drive.
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/t..._services.html it says its only available from end of 2013 on X5 Requirements/availability Requirements: ConnectedDrive Services as special equipment Before you can use the My BMW Remote App, you first have to download it on the App Store or on Google Play™ Availability: only in combination with the Navigation system Professional, Navigation system Business, Radio Professional Auxiliary heating available in the BMW X5 from the end of 2013 Last edited by newbimmerx5; 08-28-2013 at 10:14 AM.. |

The iPhone or Andriod app enables you pre heat or cool the car remotely. It may not be remote engine start but solves the common problem in winter. We don't know if it requires any programming update on car (not even BMW USA customer relations ) or just an app update. If its just an app, the problem is easy to solve.

probably bad news for cars built before Dec 2013 as the auxilary heating will not be available until Dec 13.
"Auxiliary heating available in the BMW X5 from the end of 2013" Source: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/t..._services.html Click on requirements and availability: Auxiliary heating means: " car's heater gets it warmth from the coolant fluid that circulates through the engine block. Your heater doesn't "work" until the car's engine runs for a bit and gets up to operating temperature. That's why your heater isn't warm when you first start your car. An auxiliary heater is an electric powered one that is will give more instant heat." |

in the E70 my pre heater is a small diesel/ or petrol powered heater under car controlled by idrive or remote.
All X5s have the ability to use some of the engine heat to keep the car warm for a few moments after shutdown. |
