How come the Bluetooth cannot access other BT devices?

Like PDAs, etc? My PDA has a huge SD card with tons of mp3s....

Since all the hardware is there, it sounds like simple software to write.

Why don't you get right on that then?

First off, the hardware isn't really "there"; the TCU has the bluetooth transceiver, not the stereo.

If the stereo did have Bluetooth, and had software to support reading mp3s over an L2CAP ObEx or BT-FTP session, it would absolutely annihilate the battery on your PDA. If you're going to plug it in, you might as well plug it into the 6FL USB jack and keep everything nice and tidy. Your PDA does support USB Mass Storage, right?

When I had my X3, I did manage to get my Bluetooth setup to work with my laptop. It became the audio out for my laptop. You wouldn't like it though. The sound quality was crap though, so I disconnected it after a few minutes.

Bluetooth Handsfree Profile is 8Khz 13-bit. It's useless for music.

The standard stereo aux-in and 6FL USB Mass Storage support are the key enablers in this generation. If you want bluetooth stereo, get an A2DP adapter and plug it into the aux input.

There's no Bluetooth profile for remote media navigation like with the iPod adapter; the best you can do is the AVRCP play/pause/forward/back buttons. In my opinion, this makes A2DP pretty useless in a vehicle scenario, since you still need to pull out your phone/player to navigate audio, and at that point you might as well plug it in. The killer feature of the bluetooth handsfree is that you don't need to fish out your phone to use it.
