Question How to replace this part?

Hey guys,

I am trying to guage how difficult it would be to remove and install a new piece on my F30. The part number is 51118054132.

That part, is the mesh part on the M-Sport model in the lower area. Look at the picture:

Anyway does anyone know how I can replace this by myself? How would I remove/re-install it?

Thanks!

Darn. Can you point me to any link that shows how to take the bumper off and re-install that so I can access that mesh piece.

Once the bumper is off, is it as simple as removing a few screws/bolts to remove that piece?

Thanks

The bumper is fairly easy to remove, usually a screw on each side in the wheel well where the bumper meets the fender, screws along the top and bottom. You can figure it out your self if your mechanically inclined.

The mesh piece is most likely clipped into the bumper which will be very easy to remove with a flat head screw driver or a plastic pry tool which I suggest so you do not scratch anything.

If you have parking sensors or the side cameras make sure you disconnect the wiring before you pull the bumper off.

We know that you can take off the kidney grills with your fingers.

If you took them out first would there be enough room to get your arm down behind bumper and possibly get more clips off for the grill you wish to get off?

No there is a cross bar that is in the way, you might be able to take just the bottom plastic panel off and get to that piece from underneath the car.

Just out of curiosity, what are you trying to do with it?

Installing a retractable license plate that requires a cut in the mesh. At the end of the lease I would need to fix it so I am trying to judge how difficult it would be.

Also does anyone know if you have to go underneath the front of the car to remove the bumper? (Will I need a jack?)

I think there are a few screws that the undercarriage cover connects to the bumper. You should be able to lay on your back to get to them.

Are you sure? This to be honest is the game changer, if it needs a jack then I might not do all of this but if you can confirm that it is easily accessible without a jack, I'll go through with it.
