Stop and Go traffic kills me daily

I sit in for abt 40 mins average speed < 20 mph, IATs reach 130, Oil 248 ish ... car runs like ***, is there a mod that will help ? I dont think oil cooler or FMIC will help coz there is no air flowing thru bumper to bumper jam packed highway

still love the car & this forum you guys are tremendous

If you can, change your work schedule to avoid traffic. I did that and either come in later, earlier or work OT to avoid traffic and get extra work done.

That's actually not all that bad. But... You can drop in a BMS Low Temperature Thermostat in to your car to open up the flow to your oil cooler. That should help drop the oil temps. AIT's, not much you can do with regard to AIT's in hot stop & go.

Don't ditch your thermostat as you might want it for cold weather.

Get the BMS thermostat device, it helps.

I just did a track day with Water Wetter in the expansion tank. Dropped my oil temps by about 5 degrees. Not epic, but enough to keep the fan from coming on as often as before.

Other than that, have you thought about water injection? In theory, that should keep things cool.

Did any of you read the thread?! He is having temp issues in stop and go bumper to bumper traffic. If you suggested ANYTHING that requires airflow, you need to rethink your strategy or reread the OP's thread. The thermostat may help just to circulate the coolant, but even still, it's not really going to be foing you any good once your coolers heat soak and you still don't have air rushing over them. HOPEFULLY, the fan can pull enough air to drop temps with the BMS thermostat. Does anyone make a higher volume fan for our cars? A vented hood could help with ambient temps under hood, which could help a tad. Also, using a bunch of thermal wrap on the hot side and cold side to help keep the heat in and out.

Anyone for BMW putting bigger/stronger fans for the radiator? Getting that fan to kick on sooner or pull more air through the radiator would certainly help with the stagnant air.

+1 to removing the cowl. The air filter can stay though. Removing the cowl will allow the hot air to escape from under the bonnet. When stopped you can literally see the air in front of your whole windscreen shimmering.

If i get stuck to where im stopped for longer than 5mins then i get to 250 and stay there, but in normally heavy traffic that im consistently moving at <20 mph im at 240.

I dont have an oil cooler, but i am running cooler oil 0x40 mobil one, and 1 step coolder spark plugs NGK, as well as a tank of e85. On average our weather has been 90+ and i those temps are what my recent average is. Not sure about winter since i havnt had the mods yet in the cold.

Chicago can get pretty cold towards the winter (not sure if your getting cold weather yet) what are your outside temps when your stuck in traffic? If you don't run e85, run some e30 if you have access to e85 and mix it in. You should notice a decrease in temps and a nice boost in power (since your car wont pull timing anymore).

The PKK kit has an improved FAN for cooling down without airflow. You do need the PKK flash to have it working.

Those temps don't strike me as worrisome and aren't high enough to cause the ecu to pull timing.

What do you mean that the car runs like sh*t?

Exactly, even with high IAT's this is solved after 2 minutes normal driving.
