Adaptive xenons vs Lighting PKG w/adaptive LEDs
If you don't want automatic high beams is there much of an advantage to getting the lighting package. It seems like the standard adaptive xenons will look pretty cool with their led halos and will work very well.
Am I missing something? |

I dont think automatic high beams have anything to do with LED lights
I have them on X6M with xenons Most modern BMWs with xenon lights have automatic highbeam option |

Unless someone corrects me I also understand that because of federal regulations we do NOT get the awesome automatic highbeams that the rest of the world gets where the car does constant light sampling to both avoid blinding oncoming cars but yet still give a really extended lighting. There are youtube videos that show how this works. The one below is the BMW version: If that was available then I would get the lighting package. Last edited by gblansten; 08-26-2013 at 06:03 PM.. |

Audi like BMW non blindling headlights not available in US.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-1...ales-race.html The system, called Matrix LED, was introduced in Germany in mid-November as a 2,400-euro ($3,200) option on the 74,500-euro A8 executive sedan. (The feature hasn’t been approved yet for the U.S.) BMW charges 2,500 euros for an LED lighting package, which can’t create non-blinding gaps for specific vehicles. LEDs, or light-emitting diodes, have replaced Xenon, which was first introduced by BMW in the 1990s, as the hot, new lighting technology for high-end carmakers LED technology uses less energy and lasts longer than traditional halogen bulbs, which have been the industry standard for decades. |

I don't think the standard Xenons have that 3d glass look like the LEDs do. There are no colored bulbs that are visible when off. I too, love the LEDs.

The LED headlights are quite interesting looking when lit up. With xenons, the light is a full circle emitting from the headlamp, whereas the LED will have only the upper half lit at night (for low beams) so it gives a very distinct look...one I have not seen on any other vehicle yet.

I believe there is a lot of technology on the BMW LED headlights. Overall I really like the way BMW handled all lights in the new BMW. LEDs are used everywhere in the car and lights look very modern and classy without having those little LED squares that you see in other cars. Those look ugly and cheap looking in my opinion.
