M5 V M4 ?
Hi Chaps,
Is anyone entertaining the thought, of swapping their M5 for the upcoming M4 ?. From a technical point of view, looking at the proposed/estimated 450 bhp, and possibly 400 lb/ft or so, lower weight than the M5, do we think this would stack up to similar straight line performance, as the M5 ?. I know the handling will feel better, purely on size alone, but what are peoples thoughts ?, regards, SIMON. |

I will probably chop M3 in depending on how it performs but: probably it wont be as comfortable
will need to see how the transmission is - as you put it going thru the gears on the current M3 is awesome. how the turbo engine performs also will be important re turbo lag etc. With the current M3 a ten minute test drive convinced me - I expect a much longer test drive to be sure with the M4. Also what's the price going to be... cheers, Neil.

Heck no .................M4 will not be the lightest car around either. I purchased the M5 for performance, and the luxury comfort just my two cents. The M4 wil not compete with the M5 in either category two different cars.

Totally different cars IMO.
I've had e92 M3: fantastic car but not for taking the family on a trip. I think the M4 will be similar. The M5 is the perfect combination of understated performance and luxury. The concept M4 looks pretty cool though.

I'm going to consider the new M3. My decision will be based on whether its hoped-for better handling performance will outweigh a loss of comfort and space.

The M4, to me, is a mini M6.... Its gonna take a test drive to feel the nimblness of the car. I could very well consider it because Im currently more geared towards performance, handling, driveability, than just speed. But its a while out right?

It is a possible worry...lets say for example the M4 was already launched, it would make it easier to design and place a new M5, but to launch an M4 that beats the E9x but doesn't step on the toes of the new f10 M5 can't be easy.
Surely they won't mess with the pecking order too much?? Last edited by Stiggly; 08-26-2013 at 10:56 AM.. |

I have to agree with Bimmer6 on this Simon, totally different cars. I think if you like comfort and huge torque power, the M5 is "Pound for Pound" the best car out their at the moment IMO.

Completely different cars with different missions. They each compliment each other. I am speculating that there is going to be an option for BMW ///M Carbon Fiber Recaro style seats on the new M3/M4, where as in the F10 M5 we get an option for Night Vision Detection. The M3/M4 will come standard with a Carbon Fiber CSL style trunk as well, in the F10 M5 we get Rear Seat Entertainment. Two completely different missions, yet I have no doubt the F10 M5 will still be faster in the straight line.
To put it in more relative terms: F10 M5 = Mellinium Falcon F13 M6 = Slave I (ship that Boba Fett flew) F82 M4 = Imperial Tie Fighter

Hyperdrive failure happens to me whenever I try to race, you know with my M5 bogging down and stuff all the time due to my downpipes. I think my hyperdrive motivator got damaged or something. Also, don't make fun of my grown ass chimp. His name is Chewie! Ok, I'm like ROFL over here!

The falcon was fast no doubt but it was falling apart and old--- so it was more like a fully modded E55 doing mid 120's in the quarter but the supercharger pulley belt keeps coming off....... Chewbacca for the win--- still no english would bother me along with the hair all over my car.
