BMW warranty - 335 owners, who's got one?

I'm debating getting a warranty for my 335, but I'm undecided.

From what I can gather, parts for the 335 are silly money (ie: poxy electric water pump at circa £500!)

The thing is though, I'm perfectly capable of doing the work myself, so that's less of a cost.

I've never had warrany on a car before, so I'm questioning myself as to why I think I need it now!

Can you chaps enlighten me with the following information please:

a) what age your car is
b) mileage
c) what you're paying
d) how long you've had the warranty
e) how many times you've used it since you've had it and what the problem was

Warranty is there for a peace of mind, so if you're a tight person . This may not be for you, afterall you might have the warranty for a fews years with nothing to claim on.
i pay £43 a month, had the warranty for 2 years exactly.

Replaced 2 rear alloys due to cracking , not sure if it was warranty or bmw folk the bill.
Seatbelt handler, hpfp pump, low pressure fuel sensor, vano's , solennoids, and ic chargepipe, headlight washers to date

I've had it since 2011 as soon as my manufacturers warranty was up.

£41 per month and never used it.

No warranty.

Two reason for me not going for the warranty. One is because of the awful customer service from my local BMW dealer. Second is I plan on replacing the turbos with aftermarket items for when they do go, so a warranty is pretty worthless to me.

If your keeping the car stock, I can see the appeal of a warranty, one thing is for sure BMWs don't seem to have the reliability of Honda/Nissan/Toyotas .

a) 2008
b) 73k
c) ~£1100 for the year. Comprehensive, no excess.
d) 2 months
e) x2, first was for a vehicle inspection (done free) and as a result of the inspection; rear wheel bearing, new inlet manifold (swirl flaps leaking), mechatronics seal and sump and transmission oil replaced and boost pipe seal.
second was for rear ball joints and subsequent 4 wheel geometry setup.

In all I'd say I've had ~£2k worth of repairs so far. Well worth the money for the warranty - I bought my car privately so always intended to get a warranty.

Josh,
What was your symtoms for bmw to replace the turbo? I've been nagging them for a while and they always say it will rattle even if they replaced them. Im thinking of going to a different dealer for them to check. I get alot of ratting noise when gas off and when start up. I would say its still good but i want new turbos lol

Had mine 2 years paying £370 per year.

Had seat belt handler and the sump gasket replaced, even though it says that gaskets aren't covered.

I'm guessing your mileage was lower when you took the policy out? It's comparable to others on here, once over 60k the cost pretty much doubles.

I went in because the rattle was fairly loud!
They checked it out and found a lot of play so changed them for me.

Got new turbos, but once i had put catless DPs on, the WG Rattle came back as the DPs do not muffle the sound lol.

But it is true...due to the design, you will aways experience a small rattle.

Try another dealer though.

2007
42500 miles
£40 a month fully comprehensive, no excess
Used once due to a leak from the cab roof which got into the boot and caused the battery to die. Replaced roof seals, battery, boot floor etc for a bill of about £1200.

To be honest I wouldn't run a 335i wu=ithout one as they have a few expensive bits that can and do go wrong plus I don't even notice the £40 a month coming out of my account but I would notice a repair bill for a couple of grand or more should the worst happen.

Excuse my ignorance here
Can you just ask a dealer for a warranty quote?

Mine has about 6months of dealer warranty left but like a lot here of said, it's great piece of mind.... especially for the mechanically challenge like me!
