High Milage E90 Suspension Refresh (update)

E90posters,

I am looking to a comprehensive suspension refresh on my car as it is getting up there in milage 160,000 kms (100k mi). One of the struts are blown and the car just feels too loose in the hard turns. See attached shopping cart I put together from ECS Tuning. Can you guys review and let me know if I am missing anything? I want to do pretty much all major bushings so if I am missing anything can you let me know:

Updated Sept 2nd 2013 as per recommendations:
http://www.ecstuning.com/Cart/?add1=...tent=link2cart

What are peoples thoughts on the drive shaft bushing?

Looks like a comprehensive list.
Why not M3 subframe bushings instead/cost?
You may need shorter front roll bar links with that FK kit; check with HPA
As for the motor mounts: One of them from the 335is will fit and may be a bit firmer

Bushing for sways are likely shot so those u should consider.

Also I would recommended M3 subframe bushing instead of Power flex. Remember the stiffer u go the more ride comfort u sacrifice.

Other bushings to consider are differential bushings, trailing arm bushings, control arm track rod bushings and sway bar end links front and rear.

So you would say the powerflex bushings are stiffer than the M3 bushings?

Silverline coilovers? Can't say I've ever heard of them, but I'm new here. $799 is pretty cheap for coilovers, so I'd be worried that the damper valving isn't very good in those. The springs, sleeves and housing are pretty cheap to make......It's the guts inside the damper that takes the most skill & experience, and is why some coilovers cost more than $2K. So unless there's a lot of other guys on here who swear by Silverlines, I'd pass and get something else.

From what I have heard they are basically koni yellows rebadged and reworked for a coilover setup. If that is true sign me up!

Hmm, but Konis are rebound-adjustable, these say they're non-adjsutable.

I REALLY would urge you to go for FK's with Adjustable dampening, AKA FK's with Koni Yellow's. They are hard to get, it will take few months after you order, but well worth it. I should have mine within a moth or two and will give impressions.

All other components, I guess it depends on how far you want to go. Just stay with OEM/M3 route..

If you don't have them installed how do you really know its absolutely worth it? Knowing myself once it is installed I would probably just set it and forget it anyways. Please clarify why you think adjust-ability is worth the extra 50% premium.

I apologize, I forgot to mention one thing. I did have these on my GTi before. It was the second set I had on there and used them till I sold the car racking up over 100K miles on the coil overs them selves. I had the non-Koni ones prior and it was a noticeable difference. Wish I had the set in already to give you full details.

It's not so much on dampening adjustability, It about have Koni shocks and the lifetime warranty.

Yes I would. I did powerflex for front and rear sway bushings since those wont contribute to more NVH.

I am in the same boat as Volasko. Just past 100K and need a suspension refresh.

I picked up a set of FK silverlines (mixed reviews). Many people do not like them but I got a used set super cheap because one of the front shocks was leaking. I upgraded the koni inserts to beefier koni front shock (much bigger shaft). Fit in to the coilover housing just like the old ones. I would almost say the fk original front Koni inserts looked like a rear shock - kinda skinny and that may be why they blow.

I also upgraded the endlinks and I think I will also do the lower control arms in front. I had powerflex bushings on my M3 and they were too stiff so I am going with the meyle HD arms.

Now I just need a weekend to get it all on!

At 93,000 mls, my front sway bar end links are totally shot. The rubber boots at both top joints are torn, and all ball joints are loose. I could feel sharper impacts more than previous and I remembered my E46 did that before replacing the front end links (at lower miles). I replaced them with Meyle HD end links, and they probably won't need to be replaced again for the life of the car. I checked the rears, and they looked OK.
