Help - Staggered vs. non-staggered

Hi all:

Re 335i coupe. What are the pros and cons of a staggered vs. non-staggered tires set-up. I realize one downside w staggered is u can't rotate the tires, but that's not a big deal if u have x-drive (where tire wear will be pretty even anyway). Cosmetically it looks better I presume. Why doesn't anyone simply put OEM 8.5" width tires on all four wheels?? Cost? Any downside other than cost in going w 8.5" all around? I'm trying to work out a deal with a dealer, and need to swap out the stock 17"s anyway, and just want some advice whether to go all 8" width, staggered (8" fr, 8.5" back) or all 8.5"? Please help

More grip. Wider track in the rear. More stable at speed.

Costs more. Can't run on some awd systems.

But uneven tire wear can be bad or good depending on how you look at it. Good because your rears will wear out quicker. So you can just replace two tires instead of four. Or bad cause they wear out quicker.

More grip. Wider track in the rear. More stable at speed. +1 with some additions lol

if you have a lot of power and rear wheel drive you need more grip.

however, if you have x-drive, a staggered setup will make your understeer worse.

non-staggered handles better. The car is much nuetral in corners and has far less understeer. If you intend to track your car, non-staggered is the way to go.

Otherwise it doesn't matter that much, though staggered usually looks better.

That should work fine. you could probably run 245's all the way around on an 8.5" wheel, maybe even 255, though that may rub up front depending on how much camper you can run and how low you are.

I have staggered 19 inch wheels with summer tires for summer and a square set of 18 inch wheels with winter tires for the winter time.
