Question Do you need Snowtires in Spokane?

Anyone with Spokane history can answer this Q; I'm wondering if you need to get Snowtires in Spokane? I will be driving up and down the hillside in Spokane to I-90 and also to get to the ski resorts like Schweitzer. Can you get away with the sports package style 162 (18" staggered) w/ runflats through the winter?

Thanks for your input folks, most appreciated.

No. It snows in Spokane. A lot. Well maybe a little less than Cheney where I lived for 3 years. Get some dedicated snow tires.

Snow tires and a beater car/some sort of rock chip protection. They sand the shit out of the main roads and you'll get sandblasted until about mid-spring when all the sand and gravel finally gets pushed off to the side.

I hate driving a nice car over there when we have to go visit my wife's family.

And the roads absolutely suck ass too; prepare to develop a lot of new rattles.

Thanks guys, i'll get a set of snowtires w/ cheap rims. I guess I should get a bra or 3M clear bra for the front end. I'll be ready for the winter thanks to you guys.

if you search for my previous threads you'll find some more pics. I'm located in the Tri Cities, but my girlfriend lives in Cheney so I go up there occasionally. Although this will probably be the last weekend the 335i sees Cheney/Spokane for the year.

The fact that they are runflats has nothing to do with how well they perform in the cold weather. Dedicated winter tires are available in runflat versions.

The reason the stock tires suck in cold weather is because most of us opted for the "Sport package", which include UHP Summer tires. Summer tires and cold winter weather don't mix (especially snow!!) A/S tires would be better than the Summer tires, but still not as good as dedicated winter tires.

I am getting ready to put back my OEM 17in all-seasons. I am hoping for a lot of snow so I can take my XI up to the mountains and do some snowboarding!

Do they fare pretty well in the snow??
I'm debating on what to get... All Seasons or dedicated winter tires...
ah... decisions!
