2008 models sticky brake and abrupt stopping?

I'm curious if anyone with an 08 model has the sticky brake where you let your foot off and the car hesitates before moving like the brake is still on. Also there is the issue of the abrupt springing forward the car does when coming to a stop. Almost like it does a downshift and your car gets an little nudge just before stopping.

Are they even going to come out with a PROGMAN to fix this? And please don't say it is what it is. My previous E46 had a similar braking issues that was fixed with an update.

Are you talking about the start-off assistant? If so, I believe the 08's still have it.

The "sticky" brake is on my June build '07 335i as well. It is a non-issue for me though.

I believe all non-xi models have this "sticky brake" problem.

One way to get rid of it is to hit the DTC button once. You should feel that it doesn't hesitate. If you drive normally with all safety systems on you'll get used to it pretty soon. I believe it's called comfort stop but not 100% sure.

This excerpt is from http://www.familycar.com/RoadTests/B.../index2006.htm

"Comfort Stop -- eases brake pressure as you come to a stop to eliminate that jerking feel when the car comes to rest.
Start-off Assistant -- when facing uphill, this feature will hold brake pressure when you release the brake pedal to keep you from rolling back until you step on the gas."

I remember reading this in the BMW brochure as well and I feel that the comfort stop is the culprit here.

These features are a farce. Unfortunately they do not perform as advertised. Comfort Stop for instance doesn't seem to work, if it did why does my car feel like it abruptly downshifts and jerks to a stop? Start-off Assistant is also garbage because I cannot count the number of times I am on an even planed street and the brake still sticks before being released.

Bottom line IMO is these two features are seriously flawed and they should fix them instead of giving me excuses I have heard over and over again of "...that's by design Sir". BS!

It's not just me, many others have the same issue and as I have already stated I have brought it in only to get the same old song and dance.

I found that putting DTC on will allow for a smoother take off from a start position. I have an automatic 2008 328xi.

Yea, this sticky brake is annoying at times. I am getting used to the comfort stop and working on how to make a smooth stop with it...

There's a TSB on this, take your car in and have it applied. I had this same problem on on Sept 06 E90 for a long time before I finally told the dealer I wouldn't be buying any more BMWs unless it was addressed... They found the TSB and applied it, and it's better - much better - but still not gone 100%.

It actually has something to do with the torque converter.

Sorry, I don't have the TSB or even the TSB number handy, but I know it's out there and about 90% effective.

^^^Anyone know which TSB this is? I searched and couldn't find it. It would be nice to actually have it so I can tell them exactly what needs to be done.

Even if they address this issue I will still have the jerky braking...

yes, bmw sucks at making a car stop like a 15k car can...smooth. no problem on my manual e90, because you have neutral, but on my e60 step, the stops are impossible because the tranny downshifts to 1st at the last moment, resulting in a lurch.

hmm i do not smoke..i will drink however...just not drink and drive. then why is weed better for you if it is illegal? or better yet why do they ban it for NCAA Div-I sports? but alcohol is legal. I chose to not smoke do to the fact that I would not want my scholarship revoked when I was in school. the grass is worse in my opinion. not saying alcohol is better...they both are bad as long as u don't abuse it past a certain point.

alcohol basically have to worry about your liver. the hepatocytes will regenerate due to certain cell signaling. if you drink a lot consecutive nights in a row thats when collagen fibers (scar tissue) will form. Smoking some herb is a diff story....more long term effects with memory, eyesight, blood pressure, stomach problems.....not my cup of tea.
