M5 vs Corvette Grand Sport?

Anyone ever get this match up? I believe the Grand Sport was newer 2013?

I had less than favorable results.

Interesting. This thing was insanely loud. Might have had some modifications done to it?

Is that faster then a Z06? I assume not but I am not to sure. I raced a modded z06 from a 40 roll couple weeks ago and took him about 3-4 lengths up to 130.

I think it's less HP than a Z06. Did from about a 20 roll and he got past me pretty good around 80 or so? Ran a couple times past 100 and he had me for sure. I didnt get a chance to talk to him to see what he had.

20 is a pretty bad race for us, we get to much wheel spin. 40 to 50 is much better. They only have 430hp no way you should have lost.

We went from multiple MPH where wheel spin wasnt a factor and I had the firmest settings for everything, car ran fine, etc. Little warmer out in AZ around 90's, but still, I was surprised of the outcome. I was paying more attention to the driving then MPH so may be a little off on the estimates.

Throw some cams on the LS3 with a tune and the Grandsport can get 500 whp easily. That probably explains why it was loud too.If there was any extra headwork done, and exhaust work, it's gonna be fast indeed.

And 1000 lbs LESS and better aero than the M5. Lets think outside the horsepower box.

I've driven the grandsport several times. Had one as a loaner while I was waiting for my M5 to be delivered.

I think you should crush it. The new one will be a different story.

The car is only 3300 lbs. BIG difference. You will NOT "blow away" a Grand Sport in a legitimate race with competent drivers. It's rated at about 4.0 0-60. Runs 190 top speed. It is a beast of a car.

Yes a stock F10 M5 will "blow away" a stock Grandsport if the driver isn't asleep at the wheel. The OP raced from different speeds so 0-60mph times are irrelevant. Yes the Grandsport is quick 0-60mph, but it has been tested 0-150mph in just under 24 seconds. That is nearly 20 seconds to go from 60mph to 150mph. An F10 M5 should go 60-150mph in under 16 seconds (some tests have done it in under 15 seconds). 4+ seconds is an eternity in this context. So the Grandsport that the OP raced must have been modified and just like any Vette, they can be made very lethal.

You know, perhaps you are right. I remember totally roasting a Z06 very early on in owning my M5 and right after installing the tune and DP. I literally drove around him starting from behind. He was shocked (you could see it in his face as I was pulling by him.) You are correct in how cheap they can be modded. Doesn't take much and they are crazy fast.

I owned a Z06, light fast car. Depends on the driver. My M6 is quicker from 50mph plus, but traction isn't there in the M6, from a stop, to propel the added weight vs. the Vette. The Z06 weighs about 3,000 lbs, vs. 4,400 lbs. The C6 Z06 has 505 hp, 459 rwhp/450 rwtq stock. C5(2002-2004?) is about 100 hp less.

I too raced one, several times, 50-125mph and 70-125mph, that claimed to have 525rwhp, vortech supercharged Z06, and in my M6 GC, pulled ahead about 3 car lengths each time. From a stop, he'd have probably killed me, ...if he was proficient with the manual trans.

There is only one cam in LS3. But yes, they response very well to modifications.

Yeah that's what I meant lol, so used to referring to camshafts plurally.
