07 335i adding at fluid

hey guys so i got a wrecked 335i. when i aquired the vehicle front end was taken apart, A'T cooler was off so some fluid spilled. does the car need to be cold when adding fluid? or it can be at operating temp? i already know when doing complete flush it has to be cold. but im only adding about a quart.
