how common is black smoke?

I have a 2011 335is running G5 ISO, CAI and cat less dp. Once in a while my car will throw a cloud of black smoke it only happens during WOT and usually when it shifts. Just wondering if its normal or if i should be worried

if i am not mistaken, black smoke would be un-burnt fuel, rich fuel mixture. White is burning oil. Blue smoke isn't good, typically burning oil with fuel air mixture.

yellow smoke, means, stop spinning your tires and get off the damn cross walk.

Your correct. Op, you should do some logging, your running rich for some reason. Even more surprising is that the op is running the Jb4. The JB4 tends to run on the leaner side. Maybe one of your injectors is stuck open? Or a spark plug isn't igniting causing the fuel to not get burned.

Do you have any codes op? Any logs with this happening?

The car doesn't throw any codes it could be a spark plug I had replaced them a while back and maybe didn't tighten them enough. I'm going to see if I can do a log tomorrow and post it up

It's normal for direct injection to put out black smoke during WOT.

Its normal for catless cars to throw a little smoke out of the exhaust once you start deleting cats / Resonators / Mufflers. As long as its not huge clouds of white or blue smoke you should be fine

Yeah that looks pretty harmless to me more on the lines of turbo boost dump when shifting.. if your not getting any codes/errors or engine running rough / abnormal you should be fine
